Editor's take: I know some people that have spent a lot of money on Steam to amass large gaming libraries, but have you ever stopped to wonder just how much it would cost to acquire everything on Steam? Not just the games, but literally everything Steam has to offer including DLC, soundtracks, art books and the like. I’ve personally never even thought to consider it but fortunately for us, others have.

Chenggang Wang created a site that scrapes Steam and automatically compiles a daily list of how much it would cost to acquire everything the store currently offers.

Per the most recent update on September 13, you’d need to shell out $521,909.63 to buy everything on Steam. Excluding any discounts from sales, it’d be $537,192.37.

Sure, that’s a lot of money, but it’s somehow not nearly as much as I would have guessed. For some reason, I was thinking it would take well over a million bucks to acquire Steam’s entire catalogue.

What’s more, if you wait until a major sales event like the Steam Summer Sale, you can save a significant amount of money. During the most recent mega sale, the cost of the entire library dipped down to around $333,000, from about $518,000.

That leads to the natural next question of, what is considered a large Steam library? 100 titles, over 200? How many have you compiled over the years?

Steam DB says I have 292 games and I've played 111 of them and only 28 of them have I played for more than 12 hours.

Current value of £3261

I have 2050 hours of play time across all games.

I don't think Battle.Net tells you anywhere these kinds of details as I would love to know how many hours I've played in WoW, Overwatch and HotS.

Currently sitting at 1042 steam games, this doesn't include other games on other platforms, but steam is by far my largest collection.

307 out of 400 games played over 13+ years. But 93 of those are trying free games and playing Steam VR.
And most games bought at <$40.

Somehow I feel that if life came with an uber-portal showing your total lifetime spending, my 246 steam games, many bought in bundles, most older, most $15 or less, would not rank high on the "least efficient purchases" scale.

Anyone remember PacSteam? It was a reverse engineered version of Steam that let you play every game, even if you had a blank account.

My situation more or less...

As said earlier, many of those steam games are trash, useless, clones and clickers to get achievements.

A lot of people here own more titles than the number they actually played.
may I ask you why ?
I mean... some games I didn't finish for a reason (maybe they were just boring...), but I played every title I bought.

Someone needs to get hold of Gabes 'Golden Key Code' that unlocks access to all Steam games, for now and until the end of time :)

I feel this will be a real life fight for a squad of nerds when Gabes found a way to be transferred into new bodies, and is on SteamStation, a space station doing a figure 8 around the earth and moon. And in a real life all out Borderlands 77, they are looking for the vault, which is on the moon, but they access codes are on that freakin station... well I don't wanna spoil it for you, and what super powers or skill sets nerds will have then.

559 games. Playing only Warhammer Verm 2 at the moment. As I play Guild Wars 2 which is coming to steam, I guess in time to cash in on what I think is the final expansion. But I have bought humble bundles, and a few cheapies thinking I will play them and never do. I probably havent played more than 10% I would be surprised if I have.

My Steam Profile

  • Worth: £1908 (£457 with sales)
  • Games owned: 210
  • Games played: 119 (56%)
  • Hours on record: 1,851.4h

I can tell you now, I have well more hours but I've been on steam from the early days and play less these days.
