How do I change my Dell media player

hi....I have a dell vostro laptop and it just freezes when some discs are put in which requires a reboot...would like to have either windows media player or media player classic as default...which I have....but short of taking the dell player out of the registry altogether...is there another way?

In either media player go to Tools > Options and select File types and check all the file extensions you want to associate with your media player. When you play one of those files, that media player should open.
