thanks Kimsland

First of all I want thank Kimsland for the hard job he (or she) does at this thread keeping it free of spammers, last year I bought a Dell D620 at a local auction and it was locked with the grey screen, I posted about 4 messages here asking for help and I did look and research a lot of other info that I found about this problem, one of the earliest post on this same thread mention that Dell use a master password to unlock the computers, at the same time Dell decline to help me even after I send copies of the paperwork from were I bought the laptop, days and months passed by and the freaking computer was sittng at my garage collecting dust, well yesterday while I was cleaning the garage I took the computer cleaned up and tried to start it but it had a dead battery so I plugged to the outlet turn it on and the grey screen still there I login to TS and ther I was looking again for help when I stumble to the post were the masterd password is mention and I said to my self what the heck let's tried so I input "password" and to my surprise the damn thing was working I was like a won the lottery, also on another article on a website about dell, they mention that as long the password wasn't change "password" is the master to get in but now I have to get another Dell to find out if his true or not, on the meanwhile thanks Kimsland and averybody that helps withouth expecting more than a thank you note
Great job Tech Spot

no problem MrDuckz, but I did remove the dot com website you posted because that could have been seen as spam.
Usually I check every post here posted, within about 5 mins, yes true I get little thanks on this thread, being the main advocate for free only (of which is the governing rule here anyway)

or just try "password" ;) (you never know)

mathematically it's about 36 combinations

ie pass is 7 Alphanumeric characters long
So try: 0 or 1 or 2 or ..... up to 9
Then try a or b or c or .... up to z

Let us know how you go :grinthumb

example: z4y57gx

Thanks for the hint. Unfortunately, I tried all the combinations and it did not work. As you suggested, I tried z4y57g* where the * =0-9 and a-z none worked.

I'm sure you already know this but just so we're clear, I'm at a white and gray screen where it says:

Dell Inc.
www(dot)dell(dot)com

This computer system, #3LNNVC1-595B, is protected by a password authentication system. you cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password.

Please type in the system or administrator password and press <Enter>

When I'm trying to type in the password, nothing shows up on the screen. Normally, I'd see stars when I type in my password elsewhere. Is this normal on the Dells?

I sure hope I can get this going. If someone wants to help, please email me at rose11422 at gmail dot com

Yes it is normal, you're not going to see nothing just input the password and hit nter
Man I feel like an expert (LOL)
Thanks again Kimsland

Hmm no that should be right
All I found was:
Enter your password on the Primary or Administrator Password Screen. Then hold down the Ctrl-key and press Enter twice
But that was referring to D35B password screen not 595B

I'd say hpgl may have not provided the correct pass
It's lower case

unless your keyboard layout is incorrect (language settings wise)

Edit

actually MrDuckz said that his was "password" which is 8 Alphanumeric characters long

Therefore you now have about 500 possibilities :(

Now that I look back at hpgl's post, it says the password is z4y57g..

Notice that he put 2 dots after the G. Which probably means that the password would be 8 characters. I think I'll just give up. If there's 2 empty characters behind the G, that would mean that I would have to type in 00-99 and if that didn't work, then aa-zz then 0a etc. Id be doing that forever. I tried "Password" and that did not work either. If someone can come up with the password please email me at email removed

Although I'm not sure if the Dell Inspiron E1705 can use the Paperclip method anyway, actually pretty sure no. :(

You can try pressing F12 at the BIOS loading screen and choose what to boot from, ie CD
Here is the DSTCD.iso (Release date: 22-November-2005)
