What just happened? At an event this week, Chinese company Innosilicon unveiled its first discrete GPU, the Fantasy One, on which it is basing a family of graphics cards. The company boasts that the cards have the most advanced GPU features, offering at least three different models.

According to reports from Chinese and Taiwan news outlets, Innosilicon held an event laying out plans for its Fantasy One series graphics cards, including specifications for each. These GPUs are suited for consumer desktop and gaming rigs, as opposed to Innosilicon's previously announced Fenghua 1 server GPU. Although it's not completely clear where the cards stand in terms of gaming performance, they may land in the same ballpark as AMD's Radeon 6700XT and 6600XT.

Fantasy One Type A is a consumer and workstation card with what may be a combination of GDDR6 and GDDR6X VRAM across a 128-bit interface, totaling 16GB. So far, we've only seen GDDR6X VRAM in the higher-end entries in Nvidia's Ampere series released late last year. Innosilicon says Type A should offer 5TFLOPs of single-precision power.

Type B is a dual-GPU solution of two GPUs connected by what Innosilicon calls "Innolink." This card is capable of 10TFLOPs of single-precision power, comparable to the 6600XT, but it's unclear how Innosilicon calculates FLOPs compared to AMD.

A third, smaller graphics card looks like it will be an entry-level option, but there are even fewer details on it. A fourth, server-oriented model appears to only feature passive cooling, according to machine translation of the MyDrivers story.

Innosilicon reportedly benchmarked the cards on Unigine Heaven OpenGL, but no one seems to have reported benchmark scores. For head-to-head comparisons, it's likely best to wait for game benchmarks after the Fantasy One cards finally hit the market. In any case, consumers might be happy just to see some more competition in the GPU space, which has been dominated by Nvidia and AMD for years, with Intel attempting to grab a slice.

All of the Fantasy One cards have DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, and VGA connections. Innosilicon says they support graphics APIs including OpenGL, OpenGL ES, OpenCL, Vulkan, and DirectX, though it hasn't said which version of DirectX.

Innosilicon plans to unveil the Fantasy 2 and 3 GPU families next year.

So the Chinese are cracking down super hard on both gaming and crypto mining. Meaning these must be surveillance devices to spy on the west! I guess we’ll know if the Chinese government has been tampering with them when you plug one into your PC and find out that images of Winnie the Pooh won’t load.

Still, at least these will probably give people a better end user experience than Radeon..

Miners will buy these up instantly and whatever the scalpers get, they'll sell to miners.

I'd rather quit gaming on the pc than buy 1 of these surveillance devices as mentioned above.

The typical AMD bashing of yours, at least AMD tries to compete with a modern user interface, unlike nVidia and their bloated CPU bottlenecked driver with an interface that looks like from Windows 98 lol

Speaking of Poo do you know the real name of the omicron virus? Face palm!

When was last time you owned a Radeon? Lol
My last 2 previous cards were Radeon and I had very few problems, they also aged better because of most games being developed around last gen consoles. I only went Nvidia this time due to owning a Quest 2 and wanting to get into PCVR.

Nvidia has 83% of the dGPU market for a reason.

Is this like when the focus is on a games' graphics instead of the gameplay?

AMD software is not an AMD selling point. You're basically buying a card and a near feature-less driver. You only brought up the bloated Nvidia driver because of a RECENT article posted here. aka Your case is weak at best. If you're happy with the Radeon driver, okay, but it's not even close to NVCPL in terms of function.

If the Chinese want to spy, they don’t need dedicated hardware at all. Stop drinking the cool aid.

Yeah, it’s COVID19 variant B1.1.529. If you’re implying it’s called the name of a certain world leader, you’re pretty ignorant given they skipped Nu first.
No after the WHO didn't want offend Xi your statement seems more naive then mine!
Notice how the last were all Greek letters.

"
But in a statement to Associated Press on Saturday, the WHO said: “‘Nu’ is too easily confounded with ‘new’, and ‘Xi’ was not used because it is a common last name.”

It said its “best practices for naming disease suggest avoiding causing offence to any cultural, social, national, regional, professional or ethnic groups”.Some article with easy Google search
My crystal ball reads milk this GPU dilemma thanks to miners.
Found an article proving my theory Quantum hackers can hack crypto currencies but any information on crypto can be bias greedy misinformation so I just leave it as is.

Isn't the point that even if they went with the standard Greek letters, they'd have skipped over two of them to get to omicron, so the "real" name would be Nu had they continued.

Yes, they skipped over Xi to avoid naming a COVID variant after a world leader. If there was a Greek letter called Biden they'd have done that too, but that has no bearing on your silly comment about what the "real" name is.

So then why use the Greek nomenclature in the 1st place if it's potentially offensive? Ah yes because times are changing towards leftist tyrannical fascism! Makes sense.

I'm sorry, what does this have to do with leftism or tyranny or fascism? It's a naming scheme with Greek letters. Are you really that offended that they skipped a couple of them, or are you just upset because your comment was silly?

Either way, you need to touch grass or something if you think everything is some big "leftist tyrannical fascism." The internet has clearly atrophied your critical thinking skills.

In the west we can openly criticize our leaders, when you can't criticize your leaders because you are scared of offending them that's beyond fascism. The criticism is justified because they stepped outside the norm of continuing the nomenclature scheme. How can one think critically if they can potentially offend a tyrant or mention it's origins or today question the science?

Don't pull a muscle reaching that far. Deciding not to use a letter because it represents a name is not the same as refusing to criticize someone and has literally nothing at all to do with freedoms to criticize leaders in any way. There's no relation at all. If you think the WHO not using a specific Greek letter affects your ability to criticize someone, then please speak to a professional.

And you're still ignoring that they skipped another letter as well, Nu, and that's what this variant would have been named. Why are you ignoring that the actual variants name should be Nu in order to rant like a lunatic about "leftist tyrannical fascism"? What are you even doing on a tech website if you're just going to vomit unrelated nonsense that looks alarmingly like mental illness in the comments?

It's also very easy to think critically since thinking has nothing to do with offending anyone. It's a thought. It takes place inside your head. You want to question science? Go for it, but unless you bring your own actual research, studies, experiments, data, etc, then you're just shouting at the sky.

Lol and I'm the one triggered? I agree it did get a bit out of subject.

Wrong again, I had been on the PC gaming scene since the Voodoo days and had been clear that since nVIdia decided to do to a static software scheduler on Kepler, they would rely a lot on driver tricks and hand optimizations for their GPUs to perform. That explains a lot of why their GPUs would perform better at launch and after a year or two they would start to trail AMD equivalents to the point of becoming a POS. Look how the GTX 780 stands today against the R9 290X. If you are going to astroturf for nVidia, at least do a decent effort at it.
