I recently bought a new DVD-RW drive to replace my dvd drive and as soon as I installed it, the computer is taking 5 minutes or so to boot up into windows xp. I shut down the computer which took like 3-4 minutes, and after I turned it off I hooked back up the old dvd drive hoping the speed would return but it has not.

Any clues?

WHen you installed the DVDRW did you set the jumper on it to the same as the DVD ROm you replaced it with? is there another drive on the same cable as the DVDRW?

I hooked it up identically to the way the dvd-rom was hooked up (jumper'd and as secondary master). I even tried hooking it up as primary slave but that didn't do anything either. It seems that windows installed some kind of driver (speculation) and it's causing it to go into slow-mode... not sure what it installed nor how to remove it easily.
