Intel unveils new X-series processors, including the $2,000 18-core/36-thread i9 chip

in intel's defence... some are indeed "printing" money :D
Perhaps so. But the downside to that is, stores normally check 100 dollar bills very closely. But should you go into a store, then try to pay for a 2000 dollar CPU with counterfeit 5's, 10's & 20's, remember they have security cameras.

All in all, Intel's $2000.00 CPU seems like quite a bargain. Do the math, you can get 6 of them for the price of one Apple hourglass!

Are you pissed that Ferraris run a cool $180,000 used? If you want the top of the line, you're going to get hosed. That's why it's the top of the line.
Not saying you are wrong but it's thinking like that, that allows these company's and corporations to prosper at the expense of everyone else that wish to partake in luxury items.

Thinking like that is why power windows are a standard feature on most cars these days. The alternative is what allows governments to build big, beautiful walls designed to keep people from escaping.

You kinda hafta admit, thinking like that is circular, almost to the point of being oxymoronic. If everyone couuld "partake" of such things, they would no longer be, "luxury items". Of course then, the corporations would only raise the price bar to those who still demand "exclusivity of ownership".

Once upon a time, young men were more into fast cars. The local "speed shop", put a sign in their Window to celebrate that.

It read, "speed costs money, how fast do you want to go"?

I doubt a legit business will pay with cash in a store. these things are normally done with bank transactions or online payments (CC).

Once upon a time through, back in the day people could afford such luxury.

Now it's austerity, austerity, austerity.

Fact of the matter is that in almost any first world nation all people should be able to afford luxury items, and not be shafted by exuberant cost for the privilege in the process. Depends through on what you consider to be luxury I suppose, end of the day through people are still getting royalty shafted by these corporations and companies a hell of a lot more than they should be.

Complaining about prices? Check then those of Xeons and so on. i9 lineup is NOT for "enthusiasts" who play video games. Prices are actually okay. Again, they are not needed for 99,99% of TechSpot readers. It seems that CoffeLake i3`s gonna be 4/4, so they will be good for those 99,99% of you. Relax.

What are you talking about? 1080p/60fps on high to ultra settings is accessible to anyone with $400 to spare. Sounds like you're lamenting only being able to afford a Lexus while big players can roll around in Maseratis.

Apparently, most people besides reading the title and the price tag don't read much... like the following:
The price of the most expensive desktop CPU has just increased with a considerable 25%. Yeah, we saw an immediate pricecut on core CPUs but this... this is disappointing. $2K for a bloody cpu... intel come on ffs, we are not printing money! I am pissed.
Then by all means, buy the bloody i5 at $250. Why do people keep thinking it's for mainstream and everyone needs one, there is one and it's probably an update to your 2600k and it's ~$250, check the graphs.

I for one still don't see a need in upgrading my 2600K. I'm happy where I am in processing performance.

well, I don't know. really. I just saw a cpu that I would like to have but I cannot afford and I got pissed. despite the fact that I don't even need it. I guess I am a good, brainwashed consumer. I go and rethink my life. :)
Peace

I'm taking about high end systems that cost thousands of pounds, essentially unaffordable to most in the present climate.

You can do 1080p/60fps on a PS4pro sometimes, I own one of those also but its hardly the same as a PC.

If you don't know what I am talking about then you must have missed the credit crunch and financial fiasco that followed, lucky you.

That was expected, though. Competition leads to top of the line prices going up (but better value at lower prices).

I guess nobody even care to do a little bit of a research these days. Check these out.

Like I said, prices like these are completely normal. i9 is a new lineup, of course Intel wants to make few bucks at the start. And they were always charging absolutely as high as they could, dont make a mistake.

Pentium G4560 is, like, their "once in a decade" merciful act, from guilty conscious :) Been selling Sandy Bridge for five years to the same people.

There is! I bought an i5-6600K at the end on the model run for $190.00. I win!

And it supports Windows 7.. (y)

(Although it doesn't support hyper threading, I'll grant you that).

Anyone with an i5-6600 or higher will have enough processing power to play almost any game out by now.
If you want anything better, let's get an i7-7700, or perhaps we can stick to an Ryzen 7...

When we compare Ryzens to 7000 Intel family, the only advantage Intel have is the ability to use Optane modules to cache HD access, so you can emulate an NVMe SSD performance cutting costs. Still, for playing almost any game, having even an decent M.2 NVMe SSD is more than enough...

So just for browing, anything will do right now, for gaming Ryzen can beat price/perf from Intel, for workstation, if Ryzen isn't enough, you probably already will be using an proper CPU (Xeon), so, what is so great about the new Intel chips? I believe they are just a bragging rights "yes we can make it bigger"... If Intel released these chips at a more logical price point, that would really make AMD cry, but these prices are too way off.

AMD fanboy detected, send abort signal to any type of logical reply.

Because sure, Intel will release a low performing more expensive product than Ryzen counterparts, it's only logical, #Ryzen4eva

Just a mistake I realized, of the marketing team: TFLOPS singular isn't "teraflop" (PS stands for "per second", the S is not for plural).

So the STOCK cooler for the new CPU is a LIQUID cooler???

I guess it had to happen eventually. There's only so much you can expect from a fan alone. :)

I haven't done the math here, but I bet the ratio performance/price is in AMD's favor now. Intel is capitalising on their huge market shares and fan club now.
I haven't had an AMD CPU since my 386DX-40 back in the day, but if things keep going this way, my next rig will be built around a Ryzen CPU.
But I'm still running my "old" i7 3770K beside my dual Xeon Rig, so I guess I'll stick with what I have for a long time. And that's always the best thing to do, rationally speaking of course! ;-)
