I am thinking of building a desktop. The monitor and OS do not need to be included in this list, but I would like a list of the hardware that would be recommended for a gaming computer that I can spend $1000 AUD on. A OS recommendation would be nice as well. I may be able to get hold of a version of OSX, but I am not sure.

Are you really planning to build a "Hackintosh" for a gaming computer? Methinks that's kind of a fool's errand, but to each his own.
I don't think you'd even be able to load a Mac OS on any aftermarket board you might find.
Are we going to try to soup up a Mac, or is this a scratch build?
