ever since today my computer started having this error message saying network cable unplugged or something. my computer can't shut down. everytime i shut it down it restarts back up. the only way to shut it down is to shut the power. please help! internet doesnt work too.

If you have a PCI NIC,here are some possibilities -

Faulty NIC.
Poor connection between your NIC and the cable.
Poor connection between the cable and the hub/router/switch/modem.
Faulty cable.
Faulty hub/router/switch/modem.

Look in the Device manager.Does any network component have a yellow symbol next to to it ?

Try moving the NIC to another PCI slot, then restart the computer.
Windows should reinstall it.

Buy another NIC

System restore.

The starting up on itself after powerdown issue, try and look for wake on lan settings in the devicemanager > yournetcard > advanced. Might be some sort of wierd thing like the broadcom onboard card that has the magic packet trigger an startup totally on its own.

The netcable unplugged thing must be a hardware issure on either the cable or the device you connect the cable from your pc to (router/switch/hub). Try with another cable maybe?
