Mandatory Windows 8.1 Update failing for many

And just think of it peeps, Microsoft wants to do this to you on a yearly basis. The future looks bright for you guinea pigs fine young intelligent people. LOL. Let me know when Windows 9 is released. Then I'll let you know if I care.

Sounds like you care already, otherwise you wouldn't have replied. You'll understand one day. Oh, and thanks for the "young people" comment. I was feeling kind of old.

I just assumed that people who love Windows 8 were young since they find typing and moving a mouse to be such a strenuous activity. It does require much effort so I kinda understand.

How can I know if I care about Windows 9 if I don't know what the final product will be like? Can I recommend you enroll in a class that teaches the fundamentals of logical thought? It will do wonders for you in life.

I downloaded the file the day the update was released (courtesy TS) but that day it wouldn't work no matter how many times I'd start the installation. Lucky for me, it worked today - right now to be precise

The update was installed alright, but the problem for my laptop is that its battery life has nearly halved. This is something that would happen overnight. I do use and charge my laptop simultaneously but it wouldn't reduce the life by 50%.

If anyone faced this problem and you know how to resolve it please reply to this.

I have a Lenovo Twist laptop, and I give up trying to install the update! I'm going to wait for MS to come out with a fix or an updated (fixed) update to 8.1

I tried install this update the whole weekend. ONE BIG FAIL. When the download is complete it says error, crap!

Gee I wish MS would come out with an OS which booted up faster, had better under the hood performance, better multi-monitor support, miracast, faster ways to get to computer management areas, better search functions, better security, more stability, less in your face updates, ability to run silly apps and excellent touch input support. Oh wait they did with windows 8/8.1...
Is it perfect? Far from it, but boy is it an improvement over Windows 7.

I'm glad you like it, after all it is your choice, your money.
Don't be offended if I completely disagree. Under the hood, nice. UI - how this ever made it by testing by humans remains a mystery.

I had 2 computers update perfectly. I have one that will not even show the update in the list. The other 2 was not problem. I can't figure out why I am not seeing the update on this PC.

Had no problems with the update both on laptop and desktop, although for the usage besides going straight to desktop I don't see any important change.

That is interesting, having used 8 and 8.1 and with all the Microsoft promotion of the changes going on, I was wondering if this might make it more interesting for me, who has gone back to Win7 to get interested in 8 again. Maybe soon I can see some stuff on YouTube of how it works different (if at all). Aero though is a big deal for me. With all the GPU and CPU power on tap today, I want to see all the eye candy.

Curious, I don't use social networking, have no X-box or console, don't use the Cloud, didn't find any use for the store yadda yadda, are there any people that are similar, but using Win 8 and its variations and still make good use of the OS? I basically tried to make it as 'desktop' as possible. Were some great features, a lot of them under the hood (bonnet). If you are in this situation are you still liking the OS and making good use of it? Or is the Modern UI the main reason you like 8?

Smooth on both my Lenovo Y560 and my Lenovo S10 (both of which weren't even meant to support Windows 8 in the first place).

800F0922 error after multiple attempts, on a Lenovo C540 that came with Win 8 and was updated to 8.1 with no problems. No VNC clients and no space problems on reserve partitions.
I find it incredible that updates, including security, are to be held back from users who have fallen victim to this assault on their OS's by MS. Simply staggering.

Windows 8.1 update stalled out on me at 82%. Had to shut down my PC (a brand new Acer lap top) and wait for it to revert back to Windows 8. First the atrocity that is Windows 8, and now this. Windows really sh*t the bed on this one.

Ran the update, failed, rebooted, IE11 pooched, wouldn't load at all, just flashed. Rolled back laptop to a previous image. All worked, then tried update. No go again. Got fed up and re-imaged back to Win7. No issues. 8.1 is so much faster than 7. I really liked it, but if it's unstable and updates fail? I hope MS gets this all figured out soon.

If you think Windows 7 doesn't suffer the same issue you sadly mistaken. I'm no supporter of Windows 8 but that excuse is sadly wrong. If you have never had issues with Windows 7 (or any other version for that matter) updates, you are truly lucky. I've had so many issues with Windows update, I lost count. Some of which work themselves out in future updates, while others were ignored and fixed in fresh installs. I've come to expect failed updates from MS, maybe you should to. I would be totally shocked, if Windows 10 doesn't have failed updates from time to time.

If you were simply trolling, I apologize to everyone for feeding you. But your words were nonsense, and didn't need to be left unchallenged.
