Microsoft's 2018 Build Developer conference kicked off today and the company has already unveiled several interesting projects.

One of these projects is an entirely new feature for Windows 10 dubbed "Your Phone."

Your Phone is an app that will let users create a TeamViewer-like link between their smartphone and their Windows 10-powered desktop or laptop PC. As you might expect, you'll then be able to access most aspects of your phone through said PC, including photo viewing, notification browsing and text messaging.

The biggest draw of such a system, from Microsoft's viewpoint, is the boost to productivity it could offer. Rather than needing to constantly pick up your phone to check your notifications and alerts, Your Phone could theoretically keep you more focused on the task at hand.

Productivity isn't the only benefit of the Your Phone feature. According to Microsoft's demo, Your Phone can also link web pages directly between the two, allowing you to simply pick up your browsing session where you left off if you were using your phone on the train ride home from work.

As The Verge notes, the feature's functionality will vary depending on what OS your mobile device is running. For example, Your Phone will be able to mirror your entire Android device's interface, but iOS functionality may be more limited.

If you're eager to test the Your Phone app out for yourself, it's rolling out to Windows Insiders sometime this week.

It's unclear when the feature will see a full release but it's likely it will launch with the upcoming "Redstone 5" Windows 10 update.

This sounds nice, I know there might be a lot of phone mirroring apps but one that's fully integrated into W10, nice!

Or it will lower productivity even more because people will be able to be on their phones at work 100% of the day instead of the current 50%.

It would be awesome if science discovered that cellphones give you some kind of terminal cancer and then people would stop using these things just like people stopped doing cocaine filled orgies because of aids in the late 80s.

Well this would be added welcome since I am already on Windows 10 to have that on Android would be neat to have mirrored.

And I just installed a few third apps just to test this with my phone. I hope they can simplify the process and make the phone control feature free. :D

What a shocker...can't do as much with IOS!

What about transfer files?

Hmm; anyone concerned that once coupled like this both systems become exposed to the other and there may be unintended consequences? Consider Windows at work coupled to your personal smartphone - - how much of your personal life becomes visible to your employer -- contacts, photots, private messages re your workmates & manager?

Today, your personal privacy & physical safety depend upon your paranoia.

I gave up on Micr$lop after having to erase win8 and install win7 to get my computer to be MY computer and work MY purchased programs.

they seem more like a PR firm and NOT a tech first firm. I don't trust their technology. Does anyone?

Please tell me how ChromeOS, Linux or iOS is working for you ;)

I downgraded to win7 and it works great; I have NEVER done any upgrade and leave it as is. As I said it works with the old programs that I purchased but win8 did not.
I have Linux Ubuntu on a second computer and it also works good as an OS and is bundled with much good things. However it also does not work with my old purchased programs. But for the price (or savings of not having M$lop) I recommend it very much.
