i tried a suggestion and this is what is was put budget dialer internet on the computer and it would detect the modem it did not work here is what it said

Budget dial up says error 10692
There was a hardware failure or other connecting device
what can i do now to get my friend connected to the internet he has windows xp professional

You cannot put budget dialer internet on your computer until you install the modem... The modem brand and model must be determined, then drivers downloaded and installed... then verified in the "Internet" sections of the Control Panel as well as the Device Manager.
Once the drivers are properly installed for the correct brand and model of modem, you will be a happy camper.

the (fixer) does not own a computer or have access to a personnel machine
knows nothing about these machines.
that other person should run to the nearest repair shop away from this person or maybe there both ,no I won't say it I won't

i was told budget dialer would detect the modem but it did not how can i get the computer to detect the modem what do i need to do

We have already suggested what you should do, but I guess you cannot or will not do it.
Hire a technician... He or she will fix it in 10 minutes.

Yes,
Raybay is correct. Take the computer to a repair shop and have one of us fix it in 10 minutes or less

i would have if i had the money so that is why i am asking for help i thought this would be a good place but i guess if you don't want to help or don't know then don't reply anymore let someone that can help me reply

i was told to download everest it was free but i am not sure if i downloaded the right one can someone send me a link to the correct download and does it give the model number of the modem so i can make sure it is installed

how do i search for these what words do i use also how do i find out the manufacturer of the mother board

Sorry, my mistake. It is not Evergreen, but Everest Equipment Audit <www.knowledgestorm.co.uk/ksuk/search/keyword>. You can find it elsewhere with a Google search... and there are others. Such as CoolMon www.coolmon.org, Driver View <www.nirsoft.net> and others ... as well as what you can find by going to the website of the computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer.

Personnally I say use mine.
I use it all the time, runs very easily, no install, no virus/malware, and used across the net.

I hope your dowload helps kimsland. It's sooooo much faster to open the case and see what name or logo is on the modem... for heavens sake

Yes, but here's the hypothetical:

The computer is locked
The computer has a waranty seal
The computer is not yours (as is the case here)
The computer is in a public area (ie busy retail store)

There are a number of others I'm sure, but he doesn't want to open it, and my VBS (actually VBS script may be required -but oh well) checks the mac address not the driver info. And therefore won't come up unknown. (unless it's too new mac address)

Anyway, we're waiting on tmm5899 verdict of the outcome to all this.

Yes Kimsland,
I can understand those situations, but if I were asked to find drivers in those situations, i would still open the cases... Time is money you know. And there are just a few modem manufacturers in all these days

Look you can delete these posts if you like (preferably do) but the fact is, the VBS file is quicker than undoing the case, so that is not your argument.

By the way, if I had it, it'll be case open straight away (now that's hypocritical , or what!) Anyway, that's all.
:)

drift28,
there's no reson to reformat for this. tmm5899's modem may just be bad... He doesn't know enough to be able to give us any important information anyway

the information you need has been posted, and the procedures and downloads recommended cost nothing.

you don't have to be so mean to me i am a woman not a man and am asking for help if you can not help then don't reply

Don't you have a computer savvy friend available that might understand this a little better? All the information that will help you has been given in this thread already. All you can do is keep asking, "how do I do this", "how do I do that"... it's time to consult someone close to you that understands computers more clearly

is there a proram that can find out if the modem is working or the model number? i am sorry i am asking so much but my friend wants to connect to the internet

Cannot open box
Want modem drivers
Unknown modem hardware

Download this scipt:

http://members.datafast.net.au/dft0802/downloads/pcivbs.vbs

just read all the posts here and thought I'd reply, hope that's ok with all.

Click on the link and save the file to a floppy drive. Move or save the script file to the system with the modem in question and run it.. A window will open and hopefully the modem will be in the list. Tell us what the modems name or model is and we can find the driver for you
