I've got my fingers crossed hoping Civ 7 will be excellent but I'm going to be honest... I'm worried.
When I compare the tone I'm reading on Reddit and forums to what I'm seeing from the talking heads telling us to be excited.... the main difference is... excitement. Historically, when I've observed that dissonance just before release... I've had zero regrets about not buying on day 1.
I believe even if the initial release doesn't knock it out of the park, the dev and the community will take whatever comes out and over years, patches and maybe DLCs... turn it into something special. That's just what happens with Civ games.Big civ fan here, Ive played every single one since the first and every expansion. Probably over 10k hours of my life in the series.
Everyone always hates the new when it comes out, this is normal, fear not. I know a lot of changes are coming. It will be like going from civ 4 to 5, feels like a different game, uncomfortable at first but after awhile, you cant go back.
I think we will be fine and am very hopeful for one of my all time favorite series. Hell, I took that Friday off, lol.
If Doom The Dark Ages follows Eternal in being a 'shooter' with a severe ammo restriction that constantly forces you to go into melee - I won't buy it(id) anymore.
Unfortunately, there are hints in the newly released video that things are going in a similar direction with a new mutifunctional melee shield and three new melee weapons. I do not want to play For Honor or Souls with Guns, I want a classic shooter. Still hope they go back to their roots but I fear we will get Doom Eternal II.
Visually they all will look amazing. Those that lack more substantive pursuits in their life will master them. Games are fun I play almost everyday. What I don't want to do with game time is study. There are other more profitable learning experiences when that's my goal. I want to relax and I can do that with familiarity. Dusk and some of the other Indie efforts are also good choices for me. I also will not spend my pensioners money on expensive games. I'm like Hiram Roth that way. I hope you all have fun playing your game choice. They are cool. I am going after the latest STALKER though, soon
Some people, those people being smarter than you, will see in my post that I do enjoy it. "There are other more profitable learning experiences when that's my goal. " I can only conclude that your days are spent in aimless gaming and you are upset because you know it and I pointed it out to you and your feelings were hurt.some people enjoy learning, clearly you don't
I'll wait for the reviews. Anything "Made by Obdisian" seems to have some Internet following that auto-ascribes "it must have epic writing" onto everything they touch simply because they have fond memories of enjoying Fallout New Vegas. However, I've found the 'quality' of their writing in more recent years to be quite 'variable', with The Outer Worlds and Tyranny a bit "flat", PoE1 plot grinding to a halt after Act 2, and PoE2 filled with more plot holes than a sieve..."Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity I and II, few companies have a resume filled with as many fantastic RPGs as Obsidian, which is why we should be excited for Avowed."

Thank You. That means a lot to meYou are the type of grandfather everyone needs, full of wisdom, I like reading your comments
I agree, gaming shouldn't be a chore, just fun and easy to pick up, that is why I mostly play single player games now.
Agreed.I believe even if the initial release doesn't knock it out of the park, the dev and the community will take whatever comes out and over years, patches and maybe DLCs... turn it into something special. That's just what happens with Civ games.
I probably have my highest number of Civ hours in Civ 3 or 4 just because I had more free time to play them when they were current.
Clearly, I didn’t, but thanks for reminding me why I stopped trying.you should give it another shot because clearly you never learned how to play eternal.

No Battlefield 6?
This is true... but it is possible they make a come back. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm hoping. They are talking about returning to their roots.Battlefield is just a name now... it no longer represents Commanders, and squad leaders and assets and Sided War.

We think exactly the same. I'm a longtime FPS gamer from the early days—I grew up with Doom as a kid, then switched to QuakeWorld in the '90s, playing at LAN parties. Then came the clans. I've played shooters my whole life and watched the industry change over the years, especially, and sadly, id Software. True AAA FPS gems are indeed rare nowadays, and some indie shooters are actually more fun to play.I wish we could get more FPS games like in the 1990s-00s range, focused on shooting instead of platforming and/or mah feelings touchy feelie crap. The new real FPS games have come from the indie side; AmidEvil, Prodeus, Project Warlock, Turbo Overkill, Hellbound, and Trepang 2 have uncontestedly put the slew of fidgit faux shooters to utter shame.
