Msconfig Problem ! Please help ..

Whenever I startup my pc ,, before the boot loading screen there is a message
Invalid Boot.ini
Booting from c:\windows
Anyways the Windows shows up fine .. I looked in the Msconfig under the boot.ini tab .. There are only three words written in an odd symbolic language which looks something like this yb[ as far as i can understand the alphabets ..
When I click this Msconfig gives an error ..
" System Configuration Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. "
It just not only gives error .. When I try to enable or diable a Startup program or service & apply the changes .. It wont close down .. I have to open taskmanager to get rid of it .. It is really annoying :hotbounce .. Please any Help is welcomed ..
My Specs are

Asus K8NV Delux
AMD 3200 +
Gexcube ATi 9600 256 DDR.
512 Kingston DDr .
80 GB HDD Seagate.
Samsung Combo Drive
OS : Windows XP Pro. SP1

I Cant Find the Boot File On C: .. Tried to search everywhere in C .. Even when I open Msconfig , Click On the boot.ini tab there is nothing there .. the space is empty .. Only there are 2 word ( yb ) .. I tried to save the following info to C: in the notepad

timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
Saved it as boot.ini .... but still no luck .. I dont know why Msconfig not bieng able to pick up that .. Whenever I do a changing in the Msconfig It gives an error .. Specially when I am in Boot.ini tab .. I tried to check all boot paths .. It gave an error .... Msconfig is really freakin me out .. It is not even helping to maintain my startup ... It just gives an error as I click any thing within it ...
