New CPU runs old PC slower. Help needed on DRAM timing!

I thought putting my old 350MHz K6 processor in my old 266MHz notebook would speed things up, but instead it has only made it slower (despite trying every software tweak I know). I'm certain it must be a "timing" issue.

Can anyone tell me... or redirect me to information... on how to optimize my DRAM timing to work better with the new CPU? I've searched around, but have found no useful information.
