HP 6835, installing DLink NIC card. It won't fit by 1/16 of an inch into slot. I took off the casing & removed(broke off the tabs) the spacer plate. There's not enough room to slide in? Also, a small twisted pair cable, with very small connectors, came with the card. What is that for?

does your NIC have a screw holding the metal plate to the fiberglass board? if it does you can take that off and then get the card in. Probably can't get the plate back on then because of where the screw would be placed.

sign of a cheap card realteks are the same way
check the tab on metal bracket has to be bent out just a little to fit in the case slot loosen screws (bracket to board) only and try to fit then retighten screws
the wire is for wake on lan I'm guess'in

Basic tools like a file, saw and a hammer may help if you take care and don't break any vital circuitry :p
The small wire is probably for the Wake on LAN feature - you can send a special packet to your NIC and it turns on your computer. There should be a WoL header on your motherboard too - check the manual.
