Hi! First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mike and I'm here with a problem regarding my computer, Window XP. About a month or two ago I've started getting pop-ups (right after my computer had just recovered from a virus). Until recently the pop-ups were just mildly irritating. Since then the pop-ups have increase quite noticably. There are two types of pop-ups I've seen. One type of pop-ups is the broad types, commercial of casinos, wallpapers, and a few other things. Then there is the antivirus/computer alert pop-ups, alerting me that my computer was at risk and asking me to download and buy software to protect my computer.
Ok, aside from pop-ups, very recently I had a hijack attempt on my computer and well that gave me a real fright. Luckily my spyware software stopped it from happening. Also very recently, my web searches started being diverted to other sites relating and sometimes unrelating to my searches. I found this to be alot more annoying than pop-ups. To try and solve my problems, I have brought a couple of antispyware softwares (webroot spy sweeper & etrust pest patrol). Both of these I've brought after intensive researched and recommendations, however, even with all the good remarks I found their usefulness to be minimal. Alongside these two products I have Ad-Aware SE Personal, ediwo antimalware, and No Ads. All of these online helps were much appreciated but still doesnt resolve my computer issues. So I have no where else to turn to but here...

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your system is badly infected with a variety of nasties.

You`re not running any antivirus or firewall software. This is a huge security risk.

Download and install the free AVG antivirus programme and either the free Zonealarm or the free Kerio firewall programmes. You can get them HERE, HERE and HERE. Install whichever firewall you like, followed by AVG. Reboot your computer the required number of times and run the AVG updates.

Run a full system scan with AVG and delete whatever it finds. Reboot into normal mode and turn system restore back on.

Then, go HERE and follow the instructions exactly.

Post a fresh HJT log into this thread, only after doing the above.
