Open Forum: What do you use for messaging with friends and for work?

I used AIM and Yahoo Messenger when I first got a computer. Now I use Facebook Messenger and SMS texts. I work for a government agency so we don't have any chat/messaging software allowed at work; only email through Outlook.

Pigeons.
But seriously, if they regularly have some form of broadband connection then I might e-mail them (especially if I need to attach stuff) or simply text them. You can tout the benefits of Skype, Lync, Facebook chat, Jabber (I had it before it took off), Google Hangouts (does anyone actually use that?!), Steam chat (!), but it's guaranteed that your (real) friends will have at least one e-mail account and that text messaging is more likely than not to be the last ditch in communications out in the countryside

AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger But Mostly Paltalk. That's Until Facebook Came To Age And Was The In Thing.

First choice: android messenger (text/sms)
second choice: free viber text/calls
third choice: direct phone calls

Skype for Business for Work and at home, I just call. I really do not message or text anyone outside of work. I'd rather just practice the lost art of talking.

Skype, emails for work.
Discord, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Messenger/FB, Text for friends/family.
Viber, Instagram, Twitter and technically forums/reddit for other times.

Really want to push Discord at work over Slack.

I use Facebook Messenger to talk with friend but when it comes to messaging with my customers via Facebook, I actually use the Airy Messenger app. It helps segment private/work life and Airy has all sorts of productivity features.

Carrier pigeon - maybe slow but always delivers - rugged and built for long distances - no upgrades needed.

In South Africa, a carrier pigeon carrying a 4GB memory stick proved to be faster than the ADSL service from the country's biggest web firm, Telkom. Winston the pigeon took one hour and eight minutes to carry the data across the 60-mile course, and it took another hour to upload the data. During the same time, the ADSL had sent just 4% of the data.

For work - Sametime (lotus notes chat client) lol! but we are moving over to skype for business shortly.

friends/family - SMS and facebook messenger.

Whatsapp for non-official work communication, also whatsapp for families and friends.
Official work communication goes thru corporation e-mail.

Funny fact: I've started with mIRC when I was 10 yo, jumped to MSN Messenger later on, the ICQ. Met my then girlfriend now 10 years wife on ICQ.
