Pc crashes when working with sound files

My pc (running Windows XP Home) has started to crash when using some (but not all) sound programmes.

In each case it happens when a sound file is being loaded up - when converting a wav to mp3 in Creative Mediasource Organiser and in Easy CD-DA Extractor and also when using MPTrim to adjust volume.

I have updated drivers/firmware for these programmes but with no success. The crashes don't happen (so far) when using some other programmes like Cool MP3 Splitter or the older Creative Media Player (which seems to load up and convert wav's at a much slower pace).

Any help much appreciated

Have you recently installed anything new related to this.....codecs and such? It's possible that one of these could be corrupt.

Thanks for your reply, the only thing I can think of is some problems I had with ASPI and a ripping programme. I couldn't get it to work and I deleted the ASPI files I had downloaded?
