PC vs CONSOLE gaming

Thanks for correction. I'll make an edit.
But am I correct in saying that the 360 boasts a custom ATI card? I think I remember reading an article saying that most of it's graphics calculations for antialiasing and whatnot are performed directly on the memory.

Have Fun buying a $500-1500 TV to take full advantage of the 360/PS3 graphix. You need to TV that supports a high enough resolution to take full advantage of the 360/PS3. And as the Last post said Consoles are always going to behind PC's
Plus you can do so much more on a PC than you can on a console.

PC GAMING ROCKS

well i havent got a reply to my enquiry.....
so i presume tht either its an irrelevant question and the question of comparison does not arise or ppl are still tryin to figure out the answer.....

A 128 MB ATI Radeon 9800 Pro would beat the PS2, mainly because the 9800 Pro has a 256-bit interface while the PS2 is 128-bit. Plus the frequency of the rendering engine in the PS2 is 150 MHz while the core clock of the 9800 Pro is at 380 MHz.
This is what I have gleaned from sources on the Web. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I just wandered into this post and noticed everyones constant arguing about graphics cards. I figured that maybe I could lend my oppinion on this subject.
I am a hardcore gamer, thats all I do everyday. To put this into a higher perspective the way that you could decide on this would to place the PC along next to consoles. One thing i find useful about consoles is that you need not buy upgrades constantly. However where consoles have this advantage is also where it is lacking. PCs allow for upgrades giving a higher potential for extended gameplay. Plus everyone in a way should love patches. All they do is help extend gameplay. However the thing i like about consoles is the CONTROLLERS. GOD I HATE PLAYING A GAME WITH THE KEYBOARD. And i cant afford a simple $15 for a PC controller. Oh yeah and you cant exactly pull the old switcheroo with a broken computer :giddy: . Did I mention I have an Xbox, Ps2, Gamecube, And of course a PC.

What do you think proffesionally written or just plain stupid?

Controllers might be good for certain games omegaweapon, but for FPS games u cannot beat the keyboard-mouse combination. The latter is much more precise and offers greater control to the player. And IMO, the Xbox 360 is literally a PC, since many of the functions it has are equivalent to those found on PCs, such as USB ports, MP3 playback etc. So the line between PCs and consoles is gradually blurring.

P.S. - Arguing is what keeps video card manufacturers like NVIDIA and ATI going. Each tries to outdo the other and that results in better products for the consumer. So we benefit greatly from these flame wars. Not trying to prove u wrong or anything omegaweapon but just giving my opinion, just like u! ;)

Hey man thats cool that you did that. Everyone needs to be heard btw i kinda agree with the keyboard mouse thing

With PC's, you get the advantage of downloading patches and updates. With consoles, when theres a gameplay flaw or bug, you simply have to live with it. For instance, the original SSX for PS2 was a great game, however I couldn't unlock many items as the trick lists for characters besides Mac, were wrong.

Actually, starting with the original Xbox and it's hard drive and Xbox Live, the ability to patch games has been here for a while now. The game you're citing was on the PS2, which didn't have that kind of support.

Outside of the graphics/physics discussions, I think a lot of the preference has to do with personality. PC gaming naturally tends to be more seclusive. Even at a LAN party, everyone has their own screen and that's what they interact with. With console gaming the possibility for more social interaction is there, with everyone sharing the same screen. The landscape is changing on the console front with things like Xbox Live, but it's always going to be pretty hard to play a game with two people on one computer.

So, what's the point? The point is that sometimes the amount of social interaction you enjoy plays into your preferences.

btw - I tend towards PC gaming for the most part, and when I go to an Xbox party, I like to take my own TV so that I have my own screen.

p.s. To my knowledge, you can't run MAME on a console.

look i have see the call of duty 2 on 360 i dnt see a defrence on PC version or 360 is the same but if you look the shadows of the charaters you will see a very
big difrence even you are blind thee have not smooth on edge but a bubic like thei try to create a softshadows efect but the hardware fails.i have see on the need for speed MW the same thing

PS mayby pc dnt have a 3.2ghz 3core cpu or ati 48 pipe or stuff like that but look F.E.A.R for shadows grafics Phisicks and A.I.

sry for my english is very rusty

Consoles are good for certain games while PCs are good for certain games; it's hard to just draw a line and say which one is the game machine...

Exactly. Why does this have to be an either/or discussion? There are many console games that simply would not work at all on a PC and just try to play a CIV or Age of Empires style game on a console.

You cant beat the keyboard/mouse set up for first person shooters ala call of duty..graphics aside.
PC's will catch up and surpass consoles always have always will.
The huge advantage i think the PS3 has is its media....blue ray can hold up to 45 gigs..when the developers get up to speed this will be hard to compete with ...the games will be huge.

I don't think that PC's will beat consoles, because that would kill an entire industry, and nobody wants that. Each one has its place.

I won't ever buy a console because the PC is a good-for-all tool, I can work&have fun at the same time, while a console it's like a 2-seat sportscar - you can have fun with it, but to take your family to the seaside you'll have to buy a family car.

It may be also the 3-rd world country thinking here, but I think that anyone everywhere should plan the resources in the best way possible. If you look around at what's happening you'll see that the tendency is to put as much functions into a device rather than having specialised ones, and the struggle goes on for now.

I'll end this post with a parallel and something to think about - who would have thought 15years ago that Porsche will ever build a SUV?

It has to do a lot with pc vs. console.

Think about a future where console producers will be involved a lot in the PC industry to survive. In fact, most of them work on both fields, but in the future it is possible that the consoles will disappear and the technological peaks used in them will pass to the PC world.

Remember that when 3dfx launched first graphics accelerators, OpenGL was something out of the PC world, used only on Silicon Graphics workstations.

ok but where are you getting the comparsions with the Cayenne? porsche already had a 4 wheel drive system and that jeep( or a beefed up car which it basically is) was developed with VW( shares a lot of componenetes with the tourage) i understand your point but don't see the comparsions with a jeep...I dont personally think technology will dvelop back in to pc's i reckon the mobilephone/device will become the driving force in everything..probably already is..thats getting of the point but

Well, the comparison wasn't with the car, but with what happened - Porsche had to build this "car" because the SUV market is huge these days and sports cars don't sell that good as in their golden age.

In the same manner it is possible that consoles - like the sportscars - will fade when compared to gaming systems which are getting closer in terms of performance and could also be used for a lot of purposes - you can use a SUV to drive on the highway but also to pass through some mud or a little mountain-drive, things which cannot be done with a sports car.

I hope you got the point now. Anyway, nothing's sure, these are all just suppositions. Who would've believe 7 years ago that only Ati and nVidia will go head to head for supremacy and Intel will have such a hard fight with AMD?
