Pictures freeze on iPad

Hi,
Retired with pc but am delighted new owner of a 64 I pad bought to use FaceTime to connect with family in USA their picture freezes we are devastated any suggestions thanks and help?

What exactly happens? While you are Facetiming the video freezes?
