Printer malfunctioning?

So yesterday I was trying to scan a picture, and my scanner jammed. Nothing much, unplugged it for a few. When I plugged it back in, I kept getting a "This USB device has malfunctioned" Message. Which made me fustrated. I tried to reinstall the drivers only to fail. Helpplz?

As for my printer...
It's a Lexmark 5495.

My system is Windows XP/Alienware.

If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

you probably just need first go to Device Manager to uninstall any Unknown devices you find listed (looking under USB as well as other spots) then reinstall
