Problem with sound

well, i have an integrated sound card and a while ago it got messed up.
so i got a usb headset, and that worked just fine, but a couple weeks ago the wire snapped, so i have been without sound.
i thought i might try plugging some speakers back into the back of my computer.
the thing is, sound is coming out of the speakers, but its only this one beep.
it makes the beeping sound whenever an error message pops up, and when i get an IM from one of my buddies. its the same sound. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT?

That sounds like the PC speaker beeping. I know you can setup certain functions to beep through the PC speaker when no soundcard is present. This way the OS can still communicate problems to you with sound. I'd suggest getting a new soundcard and installing it.

i am a little short on funds at the moment

You could also try reinstalling the drivers and software for your onboard sound.

You will find these either on the mobo cd or from your mobo manufacturers website.
