my processor is an ANTHALON XP 1500
motherboard- ABIT NF7-S2G
hard drive- maxtor 60 gig
memory- 512 mb

i am trying to clean install windows XP pro with service pack 2 onto my computer. it gets about 2/3 of the way through the device installation and the screen just goes dark with a flashing cursor. if i restart the installation, it goes to the same spot and again the screen goes black with the flashing cursor. it is a brand new student media kit. it is legal, part of a volume licenseing program through school.

My brothers did the same thing, come to find out it was a bad video card. Dont know if that will help you.

A friend of mine had this problem the other day when he was trying to install his 2k3 server starter kit. Turns out there wers some bad sectors in the HDD. If you can get the repair utiliy from the manufactures website and run tht you can do a low lever format from DOS which will mark out the bad sectors and then let you install windows with out any problems.

That is of course assuming that the HDD is the problem like it was in the case with my friend.
