Red Dead Redemption 2 comes to PC on November 5

Why is everyone so excited to buy it on Steam? I avoid buying Steam games that require another program like Ubisoft and Rockstar games. Better to buy it on their native store, or from Humble or other keystore
A fair point... but I'm already so invested in Steam and they are the only ones who have my CC info. Maybe I'm just lazy but I think I'll just keep buying from Steam, they frequently have good sales and a good refund system.

I support the storefronts that offer the features I want. Despite everyone hating on Steam for one reason or another, I love the platform, and I like Valve as a company. Rockstar's storefront is hot garbage right now (worse than Epic), and buying keys from Humble or similar locations will just see them redeem on Epic or Rockstar Games Launcher, neither of which I want to use. So yes, I'm excited that it's coming to Steam, and I'm excited that the delay is only a month versus 6 or a full year.

My understanding is that you do not need the Rockstar Launcher in order to play the game. So there is no reason to buy it from the Rockstar store unless you either want to play it as soon as it's available or you want one of the free games they are offering to entice people to use the Launcher. I want neither. And there's the added benefit that by the time it releases on Steam, the most important bugs should have been fixed. Who knows, maybe it'll even sneak into their Christmas sale.
We've all been burned by paying for games too early. I prefer to wait at least a week after a game has come out to decide on buying it.
