Replacing e-mail with snail mail highlights the ridiculousness of instant gratification

Our fixation with smartphones and the instant gratification they deliver may seem normal to most but when viewed in a slightly different light, it quickly becomes apparent how ridiculous the cultural obsession has become.

To illustrate this point, YouTuber David Elmaleh put together the clip above in which snail mail replaces e-mail (translation: your notification destination). The act of checking your physical mail box dozens of times a way – refreshing your inbox – would likely earn you a trip to your nearest mental health facility yet somehow, it’s perfectly acceptable in the digital world.

While it’s unlikely to break many habits, it’s certainly entertaining!

And TV came in only two colors ... Black & White ..... The guy at the station used to also pump our gas at no added charge and milk .... oh milk .... came in those great glass bottles, hand delivered to a home where the wife was there running the household rather than down town making twice as much as dad ...... sigh!

If anything this highlights how far we have come, is it really that ridiculous to be able to communicate with anyone within a couple of seconds anywhere in the world? If anything it's a demonstration of how horrible things use to be and how much better and far we have come today. What's really crazy is to be poking fun at the accomplishments and the advances in our ability to communicate on a global scale instantly.

Just because some people check their phones constantly doesn't mean everyone does, that's a horrible assumption to be making and then using that as basis for your ridiculous video. And you know, if you're really so distraught about it you can always smash your phone on the ground, throw your computer out the window and wear a tin foil hat. That'll show people you don't want to be bothered, and who is really crazy.
