Russia may consider legalizing piracy to sidestep sanctions

Ah....I remember a few years back when Trump shook hands with Putin and everything was fine and they were our allies and I was happy about it and considered it a good thing. People looked at me and judged me like I was out of my mind. Now look at what's happening. Seems I was the logical one after all.

What reality were YOU living in? Russia was never the west's ally and glasnost has always been the order of the day when dealing with Moscow. Or maybe you don't understand cause and effect..?

Lol... Trump said that Putin was his buddy and so Russia must have been an ally of the US... are you implying that Trump might have been lying?!?! Shame on you...

Well, no. That's not correct. Russia is not a hotbed of software piracy. Most of that piracy comes from the US and EU. By far.
Have a source for that comment? According to this site, https://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/stats/Crime/Software-piracy-rate, Russia is 38th at 73% piracy whereas the US is 20%, based on 2007 numbers.

This study, 2004, https://www.bsa.org/files/reports/IDC_GlobalPiracyStudy_2004.pdf, shows Russia in the top 20 and the US in the bottom 20 of countries who are pirating SW.

This more recent study appears to include more than just SW, like music/tv/movies and shows the US and Russia at the top of the list, https://dataprot.net/statistics/piracy-statistics/

So, I'm not sure your comment is entirely accurate.

Why on earth are you using facts and logic to make an argument! "Everyone knows" is plenty for those of use who believe in the evil left wing conspiracies!!

Shame on you :)

lol, putin wanted trump to pull the USA out of NATO to make his invasion easier. Frankly, if Putin could convince trump to nuke his own country he would have done it and so would have trump if he could make money off it.

1. you should pay attention to those people who judged you
2. I don't believe the word "logical" means what you think it means

It's hacker heaven in Russia. It's not like piracy isn't already happening there. If Putin thinks they are so great, have them create their own operating system. It's not like they need Microsoft products... including Windows.

How so? Using all the western technology like software (and now telling that piracy will be legal) just shows, that Russia can't live without western world products.
Any country can't live without the rest of the world these days. Russia is not unique in this respect.

Not quite - It's the West, especially the Woke Left that claims it's better. Russia simply wants to be left alone .

You have a really warped since of "just wants to be left alone"!!! Ask Georgia, and now ukraine about how all russia wants is to be "left alone".

Russia should have just gone looking for weapons of mass destruction, then no one could have said a thing about the invasion. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Russia seems to have brought a lot of attention to themselves if they want to be left alone. Putin has an inflated ego and perception that someone(?) wants Russia. No one wants Russia - it is a hot mess. The Russian people are not happy, unfortunately, they live very drab lives. They don't smile much and with these sanctions, they will smile even less. This is not about the Left or the Right, it is about something much larger, and if you cannot see that - you are in the minority. Peace.

That's the whole point. As a country you live in the community of other countries. But Russia going fascist, pretending to be a superior to others and now doing a genocide in Ukraine with a pretext, that Ukraine is not a country.

But who will resist to a clone gpu at half the msrp? 😅

If they decide to not recognize the patents they can just buy few lithographic machines from Netherlands and print them.
