SpaceX wants to put Starlink Internet on school buses so kids can do homework

Nor will I. But not in the broad context the Musk seems to think it should be implemented. I'm sure there are children growing up in tin shacks or abandoned log cabins out of the reach of cell towers, that could benefit from Starlink service. But, certainly not to the degree that Musk is purring and rubbing up against the government's leg to provide..
Yeah..... it just sounds like you don't like the guy, so anything he says or does is the worst thing ever. How cranky of you :p

This may not be the best (or most convenient) way of giving kids internet to do their homework, but at the least it might spawn more people to do more (in more areas).

Each and every one of us carries with us both a motive, and an ulterior motive, for everything we say or do. Elon Musk is certainly no exception. We choose which aspect of him we want to espouse. Our areas of observation obviously diverge.. Still, that doesn't make you completely right, or me completely wrong. Or as you so "deftly" put it, "cranky"..

Well, I live, "in da hood", infested with human excrement, the drug dealers, the drug addicted, the displaced. and the insane.. The latest generation of which kills without remorse or regret. Hence it's more than fair to label them as, "sociopaths". We fantasize we can help them, but the issues are so pervasive and ingrained, it's a task worthy of comparing to Sisyphus' epic failure.

99% of us merely enjoy, adapt, subvert, and abuse, the contributions and advancements of the other 1%.

As far as getting our children. to do "homework" on a school bus, that might be more successful in Japan, India, or China. Countries where a semblance of the traditional family unit still exist. Here in the US there are far more pressing issues for the kids:

A: Being aware of their surroundings.
B: Learning how to duck and cover.
C: Absorbing the latest lyrics to ultra violent, ultra profane, ultra racist, "gansta rap" rants. (NO. I don't categorize ir as "music". How provincial of me).
D: Taking the latest "Tik Toc challenge.
E: Harassing someone on social media to the point of their committing suicide.
F: (The foregoing are just the tip of the iceberg).

All of this over-arched by the uncertainty of wondering whether or not they'll even survive the school day.

Musk reminds me of a secular Joel Osteen preaching, "if you give me more money, I'll show you the way to salvation".

.(BTW, people have been keying in on my chosen screen name pushing toward 20 years. So your use of it isn't cute, clever, original, or creative. The term, "hackneyed", would be closer to the truth).

The title here is very misleading:
"SpaceX wants to put Starlink Internet on school buses so kids can do homework"
Here's what it should say:
"SpaceX wants to be paid to put Starlink Internet on school buses so kids can do homework on the school bus, even though there's no way that they will."

I went to Bishop's University and what the university did (and still does) was supply free WiFi to the entire town of Lennoxville, Quebec. You could literally walk around town with a craptop and be connected the whole time. I had a MagicJack attached to my craptop and I could make phone calls to anywhere whenever I needed to. They didn't even have a WiFi password, you just connected to "Lennoxville Free Wi-Fi" and that was it.

It was around 5:45pm EST and my Civic wouldn't start. I thought that it might be the fuel pump but nobody in the area carried one. I tried calling a local Honda dealer but they were closed so I called a dealership in Saskatoon since they were still open. The parts guy there told me that it was most likely my main relay because in over 15 years, he'd never sold a fuel pump but lots of main relays (that operate the fuel pump).

Back then, cellphones didn't have free LD calls so this REALLY got me out of a jam. Imagine that, free Wifi within the limits of Lennoxville! Some might call it "Evil Socialism" but I call it "a great thing" and I was very thankful that my school was doing it. If cities were to implement something like this, kids would always be able to "do their homework" and Elon wouldn't be able to sell them overpriced equipment that they don't need. I'm willing to bet that in the long run, just having free public WiFi would end up being less expensive.

Elon is just a sociopath who wants to suck more and more money out of the economy, something that has been proven to cause economies to collapse.
I hope that he gets run over by one of these "Starlink Buses" while the bus driver was fiddling around on the internet. It would serve him right.

And here I thought it was Joe Biden's fault. Well, the stupid and ignorant have to blame someone, don't they?

Not a chance. He'll be flying overhead in his 70 Million dollar private jet. The best we could hope for, is a midair collision between his Muskrat-ship, and Joel Osteen with his 50 Million dollar sky palace.

Yep, and somehow it's always the opposite of who should be blamed.

Hmm, I wonder how much stingers cost...err...forget I said anything!
He, (allegedly), has more money than a hundred normal people could spend in ten lifetimes, now he's insisting on being, "omnipresent". WTF is next, Starlink for incubators?
I know, eh? It wouldn't surprise me one bit.
I mean, as long as you have a competent IT guy setting up the internet, you can totally restrict the internet to only sites for homework.

You'd think on a tech forum, that would be one of the first things people assume....
Yeah, more money spent that shouldn't be...

There are a great many far less expensive ways in which to achieve that goal and it's a fool's errand anyway because if kids already don't pay attention, inundating them with more will just cause them to withdraw more.

Starlink for pre-natal entrapment. ;)
You really should read Brave New World (Again, if you have done so already)

He envisions a future world where babies are grown in bottles, and preconditioned to be suited for whatever purpose they are intended to serve.

Well, WiFi on school buses is an obvious precursor to WiFi implants in pregnant women's stomachs. (Of course it will take a few decades to shrink the PC down to the size of a small pacemaker, and link it with the cerebral cortex. OTOH, a keyboard and monitor will be completely unnecessary).

The most ironic comparison to modern society, is that Huxley imagines the population, "cutting off the top of the church cross, and changing, "the year of our lord, to, "the year of our Ford".

I submit that Musk has already taken the first step in cutting off the top of the cross by creating, "T"esla. Which at some point, the year the 1st production car rolled off the assembly line will become, "Year I AT".
