The necessity for new ram

with a centrino 1.7Ghz, ati mobility 64MB Radeon, and usually running internet, three word documents, music, and more of that kind simultaneously,


should I upgrade my laptop from 256 by an extra 1Gb Ram?

On a laptop, that is going to be expensive!
A total of 512MB would be more than adequate for those needs.

Also check the specs on that laptop; quite a few max out at 1G. capacity for ram which would make the 256 useless.
