Video card issue

I'm still around here :)

And yes, I had a little problem with heat. The card showed artifacts one day ONLY. But that day was very hot. We reached here in Cd. Juarez 105° F.

Then, the same day in the night, I ran ATITOOL. I did the artifact scanning test and got THIS.

But after that, I removed the COOLER and applied some AS5 to the GPU. Then the nect day, I played wolfenstein online with 64 people at the same time. I ran it about 2-3 hours, and it was running DAMN GOOD. I never had the problem again.

I said HERE that the VGA's ram was very hot. But I don't have a single idea about its temp, because the card has no temp sensor. Maybe the temp was safe, and it appeared to be very hot to the touch. I think that something like 50° C can appear to be extremely hot to the touch.

Anyway, the card appears to be working properly, and VERY VERY fast.
But I'm still using the onboard 6100 (which I have to admit, it's very good), because these days have been very hot.

THIS is the cooler I will get soon for the card. It's a very good one, and should fit most X800GTO cards.

hmm seems it mgiht nnot fit the card though Wolfram, and in Massachusetts would those temps of about mid 90's during summer with AC on and sometimes a few 100 days be a concern for me? also if you do have an alt card suggestion for around the price of $120-135 total thats an Ati card with 256 ram would be awesome. thanks in advance

Why do you say that? It should fit a Sapphire card, unless that sapphire is a very special one.

OK I got a new question for you wolfram, I looked over the total price for the card and fan and thats over $150 atm i cannot afford to do that, and not sure if my current card can alst till next month, Is there a card you can reccomend to me that is a very high quality brand that has a fast and strong stock fan on the video board? If not i might be able to get this X800GTo but, I need to know if I will enounter any issue with is since my Mobo is a Soyo- Kt333 as stated and that my apartment gets dusty and being on the top floor it gets more heat in the winter and sumer months because of teh first floor. I do use an Ac in my room during the summer, but Winter if needed i'd use a simple fan that can be directed at me and atm my case cover is off and that fan is on high directed toward the video Card. Basically, I'm worried about over-heating the new card and not having space for the artic fan, I hvae 1 pci card slot atm, but i have a ethernet pci baord i might not need but its the length also that mgiht be an issues cause i have 2 hard drives and if its too long it won't fot. So I relaly need some ideas and stuff. its driving me nuts.

Also I plan to be getting a card either tommorow or tuesday so the quicker the help i get the better. but thanks in advance if you can't reply sooner.

It will be okay I guess if there aren't the PCI slot in front of the card isn't filled. But if u want one with lower heat dissipation I would recommend NVIDIA, since their cards are traditionally lower heat emitters than ATI.

can you reccomend a good card . tohuhg ati is the way i'd like to go i'm just worried bout the aqrtic fan not fitting on the card like some have, i plan on calling Ati as well as seeing if i can get a hold of sapphire about this on monday. well hope you or wolfram can help me out.

hey Wolfram

Hey Wolfram I relaly am leaning hewavily towards the X800 Gto and a Artic cooler like you suggested, but I need to know if it will fit in my pc. here are some pics i jsut took of the interior ok please let me know if you can tell or not.

Judging from those pics, I think it may BARELY fit, because the Arctic Cooler is REALLY large, and very effective.
What are those PCI cards close to the AGP slot? Are they REALLY necessary?

If not, I'd remove the PCI card closest to the AGP. Then the Arctic should fit. If not, I still think it should fit.

Another thing I'd recommend is that you should do some cable management (especially the PSU cables). That way, your entire PC will be cooler, and the X800 should have no heat related problems.

I will know tomjmorw i ordered it the 15th and it came the 16th lol and i did 3 day standartd from Newegg.com

Well here is the verdict atm:p

Well I have some good news and bad new slol , first off the card does come up but when it says "found new hardware" 30 seconds after that it reboots my pc, and it does that cycle. now I have no idea what the hell is causing it. no idea if its a hardware issue, a software isuses, or both lol. It could be my Soyo Dragon Plus Kt333 doesn;t supposrt the X800GTO 256ram. it could be something in the bios. My bios could need to be updated, but that is hard to do since I ahve no floppy drive atm and no money to get one lol. Sooo if someone knows what the heck is the isuse spelase elt me know its driving me insane. Atm I have my old 9800 pro in so i can at least browse the web lol. And I plan on seeing if I can get this sucker fixed\replaced since its still under warranty:p

Well please help me if you can lol

Well my power supply is a 430W Antec True, and the ATi tech said that shoudl be enough so no ideas lol. well i'll chewck tommorw lol

I'd reformat the computer, and start from scratch again. I had to do that when I installed the X800GTO.

Couple things:
1) You can flash a bios off cd if you have a bootable cd somewhere (Even an old Win98/me install cd.. just boot 'command prompt only with cd support') by burning the desired bios file and afudos or dos-based flasher on a cdr.

2) The reboot-on-add can be commonplace with VIA chipset motherboards, which you indeed have. You should try the following steps:
a) Download and install Driver Cleaner Pro, but do not run it yet.
b) Hit viaarena.com and download the latest hyperion/4-in-1 drivers, but dont install just yet.
c) Download the 6.1 Catalyst drivers from ATI. You can upgrade to more current later, but the 6.2 and higher have a number of changes that may instigate issues.
d) Visit Add-Remove Programs and remove all remnants of ANY prior videocards (or ati drivers) and any VIA Drivers (NIC or network card excluded if you're using an on-board NIC/network card).
e) Reboot in Safe Mode as Administrator. Run Driver Cleaner Pro with multiple cleaning filters and all it's ATI, NVIDIA and any other videocards you may have had installed current or prior
f) Reboot in normal mode (dangerous mode? hehe).
g) Run the Hyperion driver install previously downloaded and reboot.
h) Run the Cat 6.1 install downloaded prior (will need .NET framework 1.1 or 2.0 installed first if you get the CCC version).
i) Reboot when asked and cross your fingers.

Once this is done, and assuming you can get to your desktop (finally).. visit the SmartGART Tab in the ATI drivers and see what it lists for agp/pci read and writes, as well as AGP speed (2x, 4x, 8x), fast writes, etc.etc.

-OR-
a) Wipe the hardrive flat, format fresh install of XP and hope for the best. :)

ok well i have some good news and some mreo bad lol. I put my old 9800 card in and removed the drivers and installed the new card and it said foudn enw hardware,a dn let me select the x800gto card.. then i updated to the newest drivers for the x800 gto i think(got them from Ati's site) and installed then anbd it asked me to restart, so i did and well whosed as far as the windows Xp icon and the load bar and then rebooted and wanted me to pick normal mode, of safe mode choices now and it went into that cycle, atm i just removed the drivers and I am going to try these omega drivers someone had me download lol, and if that doens;t work please let me know know is my PSU wich is a Antec true 430W is not strnog enough for teh x800 GTO card lol. Also my brother has no clue were the win xp home cd is so fresh instlaling things willnot work also there are far too amny program under C: that are net related that i don't want to touch because of how hard it is to get things working again, luckily my browser is on another drive but still. So hope this helps more. i'll post if the omega drivers work lol or another method i am going to try works, but either way i will psot something.

update!

Lol ok this is wierd here first is the history and the new issues then a question for you all lol..

First posted about my Sapphire Radeon Atlantis 9800 pro with 128 ram going on me and suggested a new card, I then purchased a Sapphire X800 GTO 256 ram card and then i did this and the results of doing this:

I put the new card in without removing the 9800 drivers, and even called Ati and said the drivers are the same so it shouldn't matter. the result was after it siad found new hardware it went into a reboot cycle. So I posted that on here lol.
Next I removed the 9800 drivers and put the new card in and Windows update reconized the card and had drivers, so I installed them and then went to Ati's site and downloaded the new drivers for the X800 GTo, After I installed those it wanted me to restart my pc of course, well the result was after it rebooted and showed me the Windows Xp logo and the loading bar it would go into a reboot cycle and want me to choose between safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt or nomral startup. Well I then posted something wich is above thist post saying i would try 2 things.... Now here i am with my NEW oddity and a question fro you all

I did not install the Omega drivers. I removed the Newest x800Gto drivers and then rebooted and just used the windows update ones... well I cna not get online no problem, its not rebboting yet, and to top that off I loaded up Counter-Strike source and did the video stress test and it was perfect. LOL.

So the big question, Can i even update this cards drivers and how? Or can i use these ones and not have issues lol?

Use the ones that give u no issues. Windows Update downloads the most stable ones for ur card, so leave them as they are.
