Vista Home Premium won't boot to desktop

Vaio laptops look great and generally have a high spec. Owners give glowing reviews after buying them but they are not reliable machines and there are recent models, which don't work, starting to appear on eBay. I'd be wary of helping this friend any further. Taking a laptop apart is difficult and if you don't know what the problem is it's foolhardy. Most repairs would be expensive. You've already done more than could be expected of you.

I appreciate what you're saying & I'm aware of how difficult it is to take one apart to repair it. If nobody in this part of the forum can help, I'll simply tell the individual what I believe to be the truth which in my opinion is the virus she said it had/has caused the failure. She'll most likely decide to recycle it & if so I'll remove the harddrive so no personal info can be had. After that, its up to her what she wants done & we'll still be friends. :) Thank you. :)

The laptop in this thread is being returned to its owner as is. I've concluded either the mobo or the harddrive is not working & wouldn't be worth fixing.
Thank you. :)

A better update. I reset the RAM & the laptop has booted up normally for the first time in 3 days.
I'm in the process of getting it totally updated with all MS updates & security programs. @Broni , if you can get this thread moved back to your area, I'd like to make sure its clean, thank you. :)

The CD/DVD slide out tray has no button to push to open it & I can't see where any paper clip can be inserted to open it, any ideas?
It is fully updated & working fine. Wil be returning it in the morning. :)

Try clicking on My computer Icon . Once the window opens. . Right click on the cd/dvd drive. Once the menu opens. Scroll down to eject and click on it. This will let the cd/dvd drive open. If it works.

Funny how things work after one asks a question, thanks,it opened. :)

Ok, last question, I've installed Avast, Mbam, SAS but the owner gave me a CD of Kaspersky Internet Security. I didn't install it because on the cd/dvd drive. Now that its open, would it be ok to installt it or forget it. I'd prefer to forget it, but............
I know nothing about the paid program, I prefer free.

If you have Avast already installed . I would forget it. You don't want to install to virus programs.

If you do install it, remove Avast.

Your perseverance with this is very impressive. Will you be giving a 3 month warranty when you return it? :)

Thank you.
I would normally gladly do so, but since I know this individual I'll simply tell her it could cost next time.
I wish I could give the complete run down of what I did but I won't. I'm just glad its over with & will be returned to her in a couple of hours. :)
