Browsing the web on a typical day I tend to amass a ridiculous amount of open tabs, whether related to something I'm working on or stuff that caught my eye and I want to check in a while -- but don't necessarily want to bookmark or save to Instapaper. Right now I have a modest 12 open, but it gets much worse on occasions, especially since I don't use any kind of tab manager and rarely open things in a new window.

How about you: How many tabs do you keep open on average and how many are open right now? Feel free to share any add-ons or tips you have to manage browser tabs.

Firefox also launches 3 whenever I run it.
Google, Wall Street Journal, and Scottrade
I sometimes have dozens of tabs in different windows open on two or three monitors while daytrading, or researching.

I usually open up multiple tabs for comparison shopping, different mail accounts, different forums etc. I've got about 70 open ATM. But, that's just on my "fun computer".....which is dedicated to the appreciation of "art photography". (BTW 70 is a way low number for this machine).

I either weed out tabs, (and windows), from time, or wait til FF hits about 800,000 + MB of memory usage, the "plug in container" process crashes, or the browser simply gives up in revulsion and disgust, and closes itself......:D

14 open, right now. Several, that I use often, are just left open. I use Opera and use their Sessions to save different groups of tabs. Saves me a lot of time.

Average <15, right now about 40 'cause I'm doing some research for my programing final project.

1 !!! I only had one tab open when I read that because Techspot is my homepage :p

I leave my computer on for days at a time and rarely close anything. Currently, 5 tabs. In a few days that could get close to 100.

right now 42 in opera stable and opera next64.
when opera next32 and firefox are openned too I get something around 60 to 80 openned tabs.
but 60 is the usual

6 right now and thats probably a good average for me.
Email, News, Sport, Gaming, Social, Tech.

Obviously is can increase when following links from those 6.

Considering I just finished opening all of the articles in my Google Reader list after a one day Internet sabbatical...
Twenty-one (21) tabs.
