What video game non-sense are you too old for?

There are "suits" in my game development. I'm 49. I was a game developer before "suits" were invited to the game. It was better back then. Engineering had a say so in the game. The marketer was one guy and he lived inside a Tauntaun. OK it was actually a trench coat. But we called it his tauntaun. And we shipped the damn thing when it was truly done. ZERO BUGS.

Maybe its time for Kirk to walk away from Kotaku. I wouldn't really miss him he's always been too whiny for my liking...

I just turned 30 and since buying my house the most important part of a game is being able to pause it and walk away. I LOVE competitive games like Dota 2, but I can no longer find a good time to play unless my other half is gone for a good couple hours or out of town.

TBF I really struggled to fly planes in GTA5 until I realised you can use the keyboard numberpad, I thought it was just the mouse. Until then I plugged in the controller :')
I found the exact opposite. I could barely get airborne before crashing & burning. I got frustrated so I dug up my old XB PC controller and presto, there I was, doing some tricks (before crashing & burning again). I drive the cars with KBD & mouse though, I find it's still much easier. The controller worked well for me in NFS games but I haven't played them in years.

I am 23, work, girlfriend and my personal well-being like exercise and bettering my skills get in the bloody way. I wish I was 15 again, playing games from morning till evening, pulling all nighters at my friends house while bonging out the room.

Good times.

This one time, 4 of us were playing Diablo 3 Hardcore. First one that died had to neck a small bottle of absinthe. 4 hours later, someone died, ***** only drank half haha.

Sounds like you have your priorities straight. Games are meant to fill time and your's is already filled.

What Video game non-sense do I dislike the most? Games that don't respect the player's time. If I wanted to grind hours on end to obtain the goblet of false self worth I would just elect for extra overtime.

Yes, im too old for all that *
when I was gamer, the games were easy to understand and play
now, everything is very complicated
learn to play?
no, thank you
learn something useful - whatever you enjoying (not a single headshot will help you in the real life)
for some reason, the real helping games, that make you to think/solve/make decisions (like quests), are in oblivion

...my single cent to the audition :)

****..im almost 40 years old..I dont care for almost ANYTHING of achivements ...I quit consoles almost 20 years ago...im a hard PC gamer...if I can..I will trick you to move out of consoles to PC..my 6 year old kid ..already haves a WARTHUNDER account ..he sits in my lap to play TOMB RAIDER, I introduce him to ATARI games at the age of 4...my wife totally hates this.

I miss the old days when you could read a gaming magazine, and there were actually, you know, decent articles and reviews. It's now been replaced by "journalists" who can barely write a sentence without taking potshots at the gaming community, politics, or complaining about things that no one is forcing them to do.

At 53 I know this feeling, The games are all the same nothing new, variants of a hit game, like film franchises(terminator 69), or the pay to win games to get some crap weapon or spend weeks farming, or going on some server where some douchebag is now a God and obliterates the noobs from boredom. Persistant hackers or trolls who delight in wrecking any pleasure you have left.
The lack of response from gamesmasters condoning, turning a blind eye for their friends but should you use the game mechanics to beat said friends will go crying to the devs and change the game(Fallen earth)

Never bought a console as I always considered it to be blackmail.....buy my console(crap hardware)or don`t play my game.

Recently did a quick audit of my gaming time 16,000+ over 10 years and it was a quick audit(steam and ea)
The games in my library have lost their lustre, the games bought in a sale never played or will be.

The games you play which you can stop at anytime or save but fill time before commitments or responsibilities arrive.

I have become Victor Meldrew "I don`t believe it!"

You just described me. (51 here). Any more, reading good books is much more exciting. Dig in to a good Neal Stephenson or Asimov or Clarke or other sci-fi. The video game in your imagination is much better...

I'm older then most, in my 40's

Too old for day one DLC that are just stripped out of the original game - looking at you Bioware

Overpriced expasions for monthly paid games - hello blizzard.

Other gamers in any PvP game

Achievement - so I get a gold star for completing the quest that everyone else has done who owns this game?

10 minute cut scenes - if I wanted to watch a crappy movie I would search my ruko for Michael Bay movies.

10 minute game intros - it's not the fellowship of the ring, give me a weapon and point me towards the bad guys. I think I can figure out the rest.

Pre order culture, day 1 patches, day 1 DLC, abusive DLC, gated off content, constant patching, buggy games, rushed releases, generic gameplay, lack of story, shitty devs, shitty publishers, greedy money hungry CEOs, always online DRM, controversy, harassment (by developers, publishers, and gamers alike), fees, ece.

Pretty much everything modern games do. The whole industry has turned into a money grubbing crap flinging contest. Nobody can just sit down and make a good game, devs are too lazy to leave publishers, gamers are too incompetent to stop buying trash games, and everyone screams racism, bigitory, sexism, different kinds of politics, ece over the tiniest things (or I get to hear about N*ggas and how many 12 year olds have copulated with my mother online.)

Gaming has just become plain hostile.

I stopped really playing games 6-7 years ago. There is maybe 2 every year that ill drop 50ish hours into.

Aside from that, once you start learning how to adult then you find plenty of other adult things to do than play vidya. I'm not talking about just sex, either. As an adult there are so many things you can do its almost a sin to play games I stead of embark on your adult adventures
Pfft. So it's safe to assume that you literally NEVER watch TV, right? Because an hour of gaming is way more stimulating to your brain than that.

You come across as a total condescending prikk.

Edit: I just saw in your profile that you're all of 29, so disregard my reply. I thought I was at the height of maturity 11 years after high school too.

Totally got you...I still remember 1 of the best games Metroid...no DLC..no boring intros...no nothing..just GAME

Ah METROID, alot of my friends were into that game back in the day. The invention of portable game systems like the GameBoy and its followers were a dream come true for them as they could play games like METROID anywhere. By the way nice Forum name :D

Am 51 and things am too old for are Friends List. I have always kept mine short and even then I have run into phony types like a woman I was friends with for almost two years giving me a story about being in her 60s who will probably never find someone special in her life making it seem like she was some sort of ultra introvert and never had a romantic relationship. Then about a month ago she tells me she has been married for thirty years. Ouch. And after I had gifted her FALLOUT 4 a few months back. Off she went from my Friends List. Shame shame.

Only being able to save at checkpoints instead of anywhere I want in a game. Gamers these days make it seem like this new trend has been around for ages for games like DOOM but thats not the case. I have been gaming first on the Commodore Amiga 500 and then on intel based pc's since 1989 and I have always been able to save anywhere on almost every game until the past five years or so when checkpoints were suddenly becoming the norm.

Subscribing to ORIGIN only to find when I switch to a new motherboard I had to jump major hurdles to get into my account to play the games I own and have the physical cds for like DRAGON AGE INQUISITION. I had to wait like three hours on the phone while trying to get my new account reactivated and finally just gave up. I found out from my Brother inlaw he had a similar situation when helping out a relative who could not play their games either. I can understand the security issue but I dont run into these issues with STEAM or U-Play.

Console vs Pc, I dont care and it all seems like hype and fake drama to me.

YouTube personalities who are or have become marketing shills especially when it comes to Loot Crates. Thank goodness YouTube is more then just gaming talk channels but even then someone will try to advertise something all the while saying how they just mentioned it because it is something they personally. I ran into this on a mental health channel and it was so painfully obvious they had gotten paid to mention the product which in itself is not bad but dont come off as all naive and innocent about it after all there is a thing called disclosure as the consumer activist TotalBiscuit always mentions.

Commercials that are loud compared to the video channel's original volume. Its getting extra annoying now with YouTube allowing commercials in the middle of regular videos. I'll be falling asleep to the nice voice of a female gamer doing a Let's Play only to be awoken fifteen minutes later by a frigging MONSTER TRUCK RALLY!!! IS COMING TO SO AND SO COLLISEUM!!! BE PREPARED TO SEE UNHEARD OF DEVASTATION!!!! yea the only devastation am gonna hear is my pissed off neighbors having one more reason to hate me for my already too loud pc habits.

Drama and game reviews full of hate. Its gotten to the point where I just remind myself of the old days and just play the friggin game because if I had listened to alot of these reviews I would have missed out on some of my all time favorite pc games like DYING LIGHT.

Not being able to change my keyboard input. I have always used the arrow keys and mouse to interact with the game world so being forced to use the WASAD keys is a major pain. I always end up not playing the game after an hour or so never going back to it unless its a early access game which intends to add the option later.

And talking about early access. I have brought so many early access games which have never been finished by the developers I now am weening myself off the habit of buying them and just paying for complete games as much as I would love to support the devs but too many times I have gotten burned by unfinished products. Fortunately I have also had plenty of good results like THE DARKEST DUNGEON, GRIM DAWN, ZIGGURAT and quite a few but the past year or so has been way too horrible on my wallet. Gaming is supposed to be about playing complete games not gambling on the lottery wondering if a product will ever be finished or not.

Gaming gear especially headphones. Give me a real headphone like the Audio Technica Ath M50 X or Sennheiser HD 650 over a surround sound gaming headphone that does not sound anywhere as good and wont last as long.

These and many more are the things I am too old for in a sea of joyous gaming.

I'm tired of people bitching about games. That's the problem with market over-saturation.

What I'm not too old for is replaying older games and not buying new computers every 2 or 3 years. I can wait a few years to play the recent ones.

I love FPS games, but I don't have the speed I used to. Trying to keep up with the smartass teenagers is impossible. So playing online shooters, I'm usually last or second to last in any given match! But don't care, just like to be someone's target I guess. LOL

But even through all that misery, I still love (computer) gaming.

Sounds like you and I are similar, I gave up the battlefield for awhile. I started a game called world of warships(not to be confused with world of tanks). Its free, slower paced for us older guys but hard to master. Good fun.

Not sure if this applies or not.

Spending 2 days reading on how to load mouse and soundcard drivers into highmem so I could have 589k base memory available to run Falcon 3.0

Oh the hours I spent doing this sort of **** to make game run better lol, back in the days of good ole DOS

Well you are correct in that I don't watch TV. I'm really athletic so I'm always biking and hiking. Only games I play now are squeals that give me a nostalgia boner from when I was a kid.

I'm not against gaming or trying to shame anyone, there is just more to life than photons coming off a screen. That and games have stopped being an art and more of a money making machine son the overall quality has dropped significantly in my book. It also seems like games are too politicized now. I just want to kill monsters, I don't care if they're transgender, black or whatever else.
