When Windows Maximizes, Screen Goes Black

Hello, Everytime I maximize a window the screen goes all black for a few seconds. This repeates until I minimize the window. This started happening this morning when I turned on my computer. I have uninstalled the program I installed last night to see if it would help, but it didnt. I am using windows xp on a custom built computer

3.01 ghz
3.25gb ram
AMD athlon 64x2 dual
core processor 6000+

i just switched monitors and I am not having the problem on different monitor

Suggests the refresh rate setting for the monitor is too high, or the selected resolution is not supported. If you have any applet for setting the monitor resolution and refresh rate, then run it in safe mode to set some lower values.
