its my laptop again :(

it has a realtek sound card but after one turn off windows has lost it
as i get no sound when i try and play music etcetc

when media player opens it says that i may not have a sound card or that it sin use with some other program.

this isnt the case

I check the sound manager in control panel and it says that there is no audio device installed!
so i install the drivers but still i have no sound!!

ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY

Take a look in Device manager and see if there are any Exclamation marks for any of your devices.
Check settings in CMOS/Setup to make sure nothing is conflicting with sound, especially Docking controls.
Check settings in Audio controls for mute or items shut offetc.
Check at the website for your Lptp for the latest version of your drvers/software for the Sound an pay close attention to the installation instructions.

thx for your help

i gave up trying to find another solution and seeing as i had only had the laptop for 24hrs i just restored it to its factory settings ;)

good old acer with its restore function on HDD so no need for backup disks hehe

i did check what you ahd said and i did everything that the laptop driver site said and still the problem persisted
i think it was a contflict between service pack 2 and the realtek drivers as the BSODs that i was getting refered to RthHDAud.sys files

so its all fixed now tho
