Hello hello, i am going to buy one of these two processors, but i dont really know which one is better, they are both AMD. One is the "Athlon 64 3200+ Orleans 2.0GHz 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2" the other is a "Sempron 64 3600+ Manila 2.0GHz 256KB L2 Cache Socket AM2" the links are here:

I have no idea which one is better, but i want one to play high end games. I know about athlons, and i love them, but i dont know if the sempron is better.

Thanks,

The semprons are the cheapest processor's that amd makes. I would go with the 3200. But now amd is being outbeaton by the intel core 2 duo proccessors. I am an amd fan, but if I build a new pc soon it will be with intel. If Your stuck on getting amd. Then for socket am2 I would spend a little more money and get the. Amd 3800 - or even the 4200.

well which one of the ones i have here should i use. I mean, which should i go with, an athlon or a sempron, or do i just go by the hertz, like 3000 or 3200.

If u can, wait awhile, since AMD is bringing down the price of the 3800+ (not sure whether it's the dual-core version but the link doesn't say X2 so it must be the single-core one) to around $140, which makes it a much better option than that Sempy if u can save up that much. But even if u can't afford it, there still will probably be price cuts along the whole AM2 line so you'll be better off then. Check out this report from the TS front page.

Here is the one I am going with for my 1st gaming build. The price is very nice for the duel core. $148 usd

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor 2.0GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADA3800CUBOX - Retail

Hope this helps..

Semprons are AMD's low-end line of CPUs. They are marketed as a competitor to Intel's Celeron line. They are good for simple day to day tasks (internet browsing, word processing, etc), but they will not perform as well as an Athlon64 at more CPU intensive tasks such as gaming.

The Semprons have a smaller L2 cache and use a slower Hyper-Transport BUS.

the 3000, 3200, 3800, etc numbers do not represent the CPU's clock speed ("the hertz"). The 4-digit numbers assigned to each AMD processor is a PR (Performance Rating). Each lineup has it's own rating scale, in other words a Sempron(64) 3200+ is not equal to an Athlon64 3200+.

Officially, the PR represents the speed at which it's predecessor would have to run to match it's overall performance. Unofficially, the PR represents the speed at which it's closest competitor (Intel) has to run to match it's performance. Semprons are designed to compete with Intel's Celeron line. Athlon64's are designed to Compete with Intel's Pentium line. (AMD doesn't have a real competitor to the Core2Duo yet).

I don't know why you have limited your selection to only those 2 CPUs, but given those choices, I would go with the Athlon64 3200+. It runs at the same clock speed (2.0GHz) but has a larger L2 cache and a faster Hyper-Transport BUS.

cheers

Don't waste your money on a Sempon or even a straight Athlon 64 chip. Go with the AM2 X2. If you can hold out another week or so, AMD is dropping the price of these chips between $24-40, with the biggest drop being the AMD Athlon 64 X2 AM2 5000+. That one is estimated to drop about $100. I ordered mine last Thursday and UPS is scheduled to deliver it today. Now I'm kicking myself in the **** for not waiting another week. Could have saved another $100 and threw that into another stick of RAM.
I also agree with the Core 2 Duo now taking the lead over AMD in the duel core arena. The specs are outdoing AMD's chips. I still went with AMD since I am a loyal fan of their chips all the way back to the 800 mhz TBird.

Lol I dont know what the **** is but I dont want to know :haha:

Well yeah, I might wait awhile to build a AM2 system because like you said the prices are dropping like crazy ;)
