Windows XP reset itself?

I'm not sure if it's a virus yet but I'll need to scan my computer. Meanwhile, DXDIAG:

Processor (dual core, I think?): AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow
BIOS: Default System
Videocard: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT

All temperatures (measured using Speedfan) are just above safe levels.

1024MB RAM. I can provide more info if required.

Could be a temperature protection action, in which case it will happen again. Check the system event log at around the time it happened, there should be a warning or error with a yellow or red flag.

Could also be malware, which needs to restart your PC to install itself as a loaded 'service' app. See out malware section.
