Here's the SS ("Short Summary"): Same exact problem for Asus X54C, tried all solutions, this one worked--but only for external USB wifi adapter, not onboard laptop wifi! Nonetheless, internet is up and running everytime I turn on laptop with usb wifi adapter in, so lots and lots of praises and thanks!!
Here's the LV ("Long Version"): Okayy soo, let me start off with THANK YOU!! big_eric... and follow up with a yeah thank youuuu--though my situation is still a little strange... So I have had my Asus X54C laptop for like 5+ years now, and this specific problem became only an issue for me about 5 months ago (like out of nowhere--like "wait, why are you breaking up with me all of a sudden"--like "but I dont understand--just tell me why??". . . "please...just why...*sob*")...
I did lots of research, and like all of you, I tried just a freaking ton of different things and read numerous upon numerous forums, all of which seemed to have the same problem as mine but offered a solution that worked for many, except me. I even reformatted my laptop (fresh Windows 7 and restarted several times to make sure) and somehow I still had this problem from minute 1 even though this was NOT a problem with my last reformat, which I did precisely a year before this (I.e., 4 years running no prob, then reformat and 1 year running no prob, then *facepalm* this prob out of the blue--*shakes head* "I still don't understand why she broke up with me")...
Then I landed upon this glorious thread!! So, I tried it (within hours after I reformatted my laptop), anddd it didnt work... As a matter of fact, after the epic fail, when I did the whole click-on-troubleshooting-so-Windows-can-auto-fix-on-wifi, I got hit with a troubleshoot-is-not-working-for-some-reason-thing... In other words, after uninstalling windows console 3 (using the install/remove program function from control panel), my wifi was still turned off, and now troubleshooter for the wifi was not working at all... So I thought of putting in my wifi usb adapter (which I had used with the laptop multiple times during the 5 months, but it never changed the problem), I then put the mini-disc which had the software, installed it, turned off the laptop, put the usb adapter in, turned on the laptop, and then *beep* *beep* *beep* GO! Wifi was up and running and I fully connected to my home network... I checked my adapter settings, and both the onboard wifi adapter and usb adapter were (and still are) on... Its just this odd situation where I cant use the onboard wifi adapter anymore (I have not tried reinstalling windows console 3 lest I get hit with this prob again), but I can, however, use my usb wifi adapter which remains on irrespective of sleep mode or restarting/shutting down the laptop... So that's that--maybe this might help just one more person out there
