XP desperately slow to load!

Using Asus A7N8X Deluxe with AMD Athlon 2400. Changed HD to clean new drive and attempted to reinstall XP. So far taken 8 hours and not yet completed the install of XP. Drive checked with Maxtor utility and certified ok after full test. Still loading extremely slowly. Any suggestions?

I had the exact same board when I was trying to build the system. XP will freeze in install. I gave up and changed to an MSI with no problems,

This is very odd

I have same board but running a 2700 XP+.
I have XP pro installed on a sata drive.
The only prob I've had so far was I had to install XP with only
the sata drive installed in order to get it listed as C:\ in XP.
I wonder what gives with Asus?
maybe gremlin's do exist
