Why dont you use the built in windows backup software? (Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup). IS is neccessary to do it from a CMD prompt?

Well, if you wanted, you can make a .bat file (make it in Notepad and save it as C:\bu.bat) that says something like:

copy c:\bu\*.* D:\bu\*.*

You create a folder on the drive C: called 'bu'; you create a folder in D: called 'bu' (D could be your second HD or a Cd/dvd) that you either create all your valuable files in or copy them to.

You make a shortcut to your Desktop to the .bat file .

Then, when you have some stuff in C:\bu you just click the Desktop shorcut to bu.bat and VOILA, all the files in C:\bu are copied to D:\bu.
