XP Home - 2 networks 1 ptoblem

Hi, I have just received lovely laptop with XP home installed. It picked up the internet connection at work no problem, (connects to ADSL modem through router).

At home I jave a similar setup, router and Cable modem but it won't connect, no internet wahtsoever. I cannot ping the router even after disabling the XP firewall.

Looking in the event viewer system log there are DHCP errors (error 1007) (both ISPS use DHCP) as follows,

Your computer has automatically configured the IP address for the newtork card with network address..... the IP address being used is 169.254. etc

I presume this means it has assigned a static IP address to my card which is messing up DHCP? I am not a network head so am completly lost.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

EH

As soon as you post you sort it.

Router had no. of DHCP clients set as 2 and there are 2 other PCs aswell as laptop.

Changed it to 3 and guess what happened.

Bliss.
