Your next iPhone might come from Vietnam as manufacturers seek to avoid trade war fallout

For a supposed tech wizard of the 21st millennium I'd expect a bit more than to explain things with: "funny thing happened"
Oh goodness no, I'm not a tech wizard. I come to study how people think they "build computers", when universal PnP allows them to just shove a bunch of parts together to watch the flashing lights, while they pat themselves on the back and crow about their accomplishment

Truth to the matter is, Japan lost WW2 and became a US vassal just like Germany. They were pushed to become those powerhouses by the USA.
The truth of the matter is, Japan conquered China before WWII, and the US liberated China. As I can't read since I used to work for the US Post Office, you might want to check the history books on that.

It isn't some funny miracle and neither is it their accomplishment that they're such powerhouses today, afterall they were both bombed back into the stone age.
I read someone editorialize about how the "US was a touchy feely superpower", that feels obligated to rebuild that which they've destroyed. So it was with Japan and West Berlin. God knows, the soviets kept punishing East Berlin and their half of Germany until Ronald Regan demanded, "Mr Gorbachev, tear down that wall".

Socialists did what they always do, they redistribute wealth. Geopolitics and stuff, USA is an Empire much like the British Empire used to be. Its just that the public isn't made aware of it.
Not only that, but the entire middle east is the US weapons testing ground. (Well the Russians are notorious for using the same general area to test their new destructive toys as well).

Now that Germany is openly rebelling against the USA, the USA will show them their place. That wasn't necessary as much with Japan, they fell in line very quickly. Some shock & awe demonstrations behind closed doors.
Here's where Trump is actually doping something very clever. He's failed to react aggressively against Iran for the drone shoot down and the ship hijacking. The Europeans don't believe his accounts of the incidents, So he's just laying back, and letting Iran make his case, as they start to attack ships under British flag. (Trump isn't actually as chronic an imbecile as was George W Bush, he just has a stronger will and bigger mouth than his veep. Then there's the whole pathological lying thing he has to fall back on).

As for giving Japan "shock and awe behind closed doors", that was hardly necessary after the battles of Iwo Jima, Midway, along with Hiroshima & Nagasaki.

China and Trump get along very very well. They're good friends. Its just PR that they don't get along in public. Behind closed doors deals are being made and relations are better than ever. Election campaigns are ongoing so you gotta look tough. Same with US and Russian relations. They too get along very well. Vietnam won the war, don't pretend that Russia wouldn't win it too.
Actually it was China that won the Vietnam war, not Russia. We fought the "Korean Conflict" to a draw against Russia. It was great for both country's fighter jet development programs.

As for the tactic of bombing a country back to the stone age, it hasn't worked for the US or Russia in Afghanistan. It was already in the stone age long before our B-52s arrived.

Oh well, I suppose we got what we wanted from them. Peace out...:dizzy:

Now how about if mellow out and listen to some nice music?

I've been waiting for something to happen
For a week or a month or a year
With the blood in the ink of the headlines
And the sound of the crowd in my ear
You might ask what it takes to remember
When you know that you've seen it before
Where a government lies to a people
And a country is drifting to war

And there's a shadow on the faces
Of the men who send the guns
To the wars that are fought in places
Where their business interest runs

On the radio talk shows and the T.V
You hear one thing again and again
How the U.S.A. stands for freedom
And we come to the aid of a friend
But who are the ones that we call our friends
These governments killing their own?
Or the people who finally can't take any more
And they pick up a gun or a brick or a stone
There are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
And there is blood on the wire

There's a shadow on the faces
Of the men who fan the flames
Of the wars that are fought in places
Where we can't even say the names

They sell us the President the same way
They sell us our clothes and our cars
They sell us every thing from youth to religion
The same time they sell us our wars
I want to know who the men in the shadows are
I want to hear somebody asking them why
They can be counted on to tell us who our enemies are
But they're never the ones to fight or to die
And there are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
And there is blood on the wire

Thanks for the long and detailed reply. I've been reading this site for years and your comments too. Seems like I struck a nerve with my post, let me assure you that I appreciate and respect you. Especially the humour you add to your posts sometimes.

This argument would take great efford and many pages. So I distance myself from it. We got better things to do than argue about the past. Reading the news for example and prepping food and water and everything else that is required to survive a zombie apocalypse for a few weeks.

I agree with most of your reply, I'd just have more to add to it but hey its a summary.

About the last part of it thou. I didn't mean that during the Vietnam war you fought against Russia. I meant that if there was a new war against Russia then Russia would win it just like Vietnam won in the past. Well actually no one would win and 90% of earth would be devastated which is why such a war will never happen but anyway. Lets leave it at that.

Sadly I can't find the great documentary about Japan post WW2 that detailed in great... detail how its economy rose thanks to the Korean war.

.
How about if I rephrase on the Vietnam issue?.Vietnam is allegedly the "only country where the US lost a war". Perhaps true. But Vietnam didn't beat us, China did. The North was propped up both logistically and ideologically by the Chinese Communists.

I did understand what you meant about Russia winning the "next war". I probably didn't separate the topics as well as I should have. (Oh well, posts are almost always first drafts)

As for "winning a nuclear war", it most likely comes down to who shoots first. But as you point out, it would likely be a moot point as to who won.

Armed with "mini guns" these used to patrol the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Actually the C-130s were "Puff junior", I suppose.
This was dad: (The lowly DC-3 armed with "updated" Gatling guns).

Then boyz & gurlz, a funny thing happened. Japan's work force became highly skilled and highly paid. And now, Nikon has to have their cameras built in Thailand, because they can't afford to build them in Japan any more.
The same thing started happening in China well before feckless leader stepped in. I remember those cheap Japanese crap days, and you make an interesting parallel to the cheap Chinese crap days of today. Seems to me that the freedom to keep doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results is reigning supreme and far from anyone realizing that something needs to be changed; gathering the courage to change it is something altogether different, IMO.

Me thinks you give him far too much credit. Honestly, I see him more akin to Jar Jar Binks bumbling his way and somehow managing to get out unscathed - so far. The big difference for Jar Jar Binks is that he actually realizes that he's a fellow sentient being and does things inherently for the right reasons - at least if you have seen him in The Clone Wars.

Then again feckless leader is a Stable Genius in his own words, so who am I to say anything.

A common problem when the disparity between what you're being told is going on and what is really going on becomes too big.

The Jar Jar Binks is you thou. For Jar Jar, Qui-Gon sounded like a Jar Jar to Jar Jar ya know.

Success and results will give him right. Only a Jar Jar Binks prefers a feel good buddy Obama with horrendous results and no success whatsoever.

 If only your argument held any water. You might have a look at Mitch McRussian - he is publicly on record stating that his mission in the senate was to make Obama's presidency a failure.

IMO, Humpty Trumpty is heading to epic fail territory - like it or not. https://www.ibtimes.com/china-retal...pends-purchases-agricultural-products-2810975

Heck, Humpty Trumpty had two full years with a majority in both the house and the senate and did nothing with it. Its amazing how some see doing nothing as accomplishing anything. The best that Humpty Trumpty has done is enact policies that most hurt those who supported him.

As I see it, Jar Jar Binks is a genius compared to Humpty Trumpty. Humpty Trumpty is playing a game of chicken with countries that do not need the US. China has plenty of other trade partners that are not engaged in an idi0ic game of chicken - enough partners so that they do not need trade with the US to survive.

My apologies if you do not like my opinion.

The NYSE closed over 700 points down today. China devalued its currency even further, making Chinese goods even cheaper than they are now. Plus, China is easing up on buying US goods. So, Trump's tariffs have, for all intents and purposes, been rendered useless, and even destructive to the US economy..

"The Jar Jar Binks is you thou."
As in, (phonetically), "thow", when what you really meant was "though". "Romeo, Romeo, where art though, oh Romeo. (Just for fun I made the same error in reverse).

What I can't figure out, is why the Republicans are so anti abortion. They don't want to adopt these unwanted children, and they certainly don't want to pay for them. Wait, I know, it's so they can get together and wave signs and shame expectant mothers, remove abortion clinics, and build more churches in their place.

Another thing I've been wondering, is why Trump is anti-abortion. Why a guy who can apparently borrow almost all the money in the world, without ever bothering to pay it back, would deprive a poor woman in a bad situation of the right to choose. It can'r be on moral grounds, since he doesn't really have any..

To get back to the topic at hand, It's unclear to me how driving cell phone manufacturing from China to Vietnam, could possibly be construed as having anything to do with, "Making America Great Again".::rolleyes:

Qui e futurus indignans, Ego vos salutant.

There is a time and a place. This here is neither.

Oh and yes I meant though not thou. Sorry, English isn't my native tongue.

Where are my manners, you shared some great music, I simply must return the favor.

With an increased speed level of 1.5 it gets real funky.
