Apple's European iTunes portal has now seen its 50 millionth download, all in its first year. Launched in June 2004, the Portal operates in 17 European countries, and carries a catalogue of more than one million songs.

"We are thrilled to have sold and delivered over 50 million songs in our first year," said Eddy Cue, vice president of applications at Apple. "We would like to thank European music fans for making iTunes such a success."
Things aren't all sweet and fine for European iTunes, though, with the service under investigation by the Office of Fair Trading for its European pricing model.
