We recently compared the Radeon RX 9070 XT and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti head-to-head across 52 games and found that, overall, they delivered very similar performance. That was the reason for comparing them in the first place: based on performance, they are direct competitors, or at least they are meant to be.
However, as things stand today, there is a massive price divide between the two, with the RTX Ti GPU now commanding a premium of more than 50%. Given that, the standard RTX 5070 has become the more relevant comparison for the 9070 XT, even though the Radeon GPU is currently the cheaper of the two.
At the time of testing, the 9070 XT can be had for around $730 to $750. Meanwhile, RTX 5070 models start at $800, with most priced around $820. That means the 12GB GeForce GPU carries roughly a 9% price premium in this matchup.
As with our previous 52-game comparison, we benchmarked each game at two resolutions using two quality presets, with some configurations tested both with and without ray tracing. That gives us plenty of data to work through.
Most testing was conducted in-game using external performance-monitoring software, while results captured using a built-in benchmark are clearly labeled on the graphs.
With that covered, let's get into the data.

007 First Light
First up is 007 First Light, where the 9070 XT dominates, outperforming the RTX 5070 by 36% to 46% across all tested configurations. It easily maintains more than 100 fps at 1440p and delivers a playable 57 fps at 4K Ultra, where the RTX 5070 falls behind at just 42 fps.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
Testing with LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, we see the 9070 XT hold a consistent single-to-double-digit advantage over the RTX 5070. It maintains a 4% lead at 1440p using both presets, widening to an 8% to 13% advantage at 4K, alongside notably stronger 1% low performance.
Pragmata
Pragmata strongly favors the 9070 XT across all tested configurations. The Radeon GPU commands a decisive 31% to 32% lead using the standard Max Quality preset, widening that advantage to nearly 40% with Ray Tracing Max Quality enabled. Even at 4K, it sustains 76 fps.
The Outer Worlds 2
In The Outer Worlds 2, the 9070 XT maintains a solid lead over the RTX 5070 across all tests. It delivers a 31% to 37% advantage using the standard High Quality preset and remains comfortably ahead by 16% to 17% once the Very High preset with Ray Tracing Max is enabled.
Arc Raiders
In Arc Raiders, the 9070 XT consistently outpaces the RTX 5070, delivering a 22% performance advantage at 1440p using Static RT and a 30% margin at 4K. With RT Epic enabled, the 9070 XT maintains a solid 14% advantage at both resolutions.
Assassin's Creed Shadows
In Assassin's Creed Shadows, the 9070 XT holds a commanding 28% to 38% lead over the RTX 5070 across both presets and resolutions. With the heavier ray-tracing workload at 1440p using the Ultra High preset, the Radeon GPU manages 55 fps compared with just 40 fps for the RTX 5070, making the 9070 XT 38% faster.
Battlefield 6
In Battlefield 6, the 9070 XT beats the RTX 5070 by 18% to 22% at 1440p, widening that lead to 40% to 42% at 4K. It sustains a smooth 63 fps at 4K using the Overkill preset, whereas the RTX 5070 trails at just 45 fps.
Marvel Rivals
In Marvel Rivals, the 9070 XT consistently outpaces the RTX 5070 across all tested settings. It holds an 11% to 20% lead using the Medium quality preset, but stretches those margins to 24% to 30% when Lumen is enabled at Ultra Quality, reaching 84 fps at 1440p.
Crimson Desert
In Crimson Desert, the 9070 XT consistently leads the RTX 5070 by 13% to 22%. It delivers a comfortable 86 fps at 1440p using the Cinematic preset versus 75 fps for the RTX 5070, while also holding an 18% to 22% advantage at 4K across both presets.
F1 25
The 9070 XT also comes out comfortably ahead in F1 25, outperforming the RTX 5070 by roughly 30% using the rasterized High Quality preset. With ray tracing enabled at Ultra High quality, the Radeon GPU maintains a consistent 12% advantage at both 1440p and 4K.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
The 9070 XT maintains a massive 43% to 50% lead in rasterized testing and at 1440p with ray tracing enabled in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. At 4K using Ray Tracing Ultra, the RTX 5070 collapses to an unplayable 9 fps average, allowing the 9070 XT to pull ahead by nearly 190%.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
The 9070 XT leads convincingly in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, beating the RTX 5070 by up to 45% using the Basic settings. With Extreme RT enabled, the Radeon GPU maintains a comfortable 28% advantage at 1440p and remains 16% faster at 4K.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the 9070 XT outperforms the RTX 5070 by 25% to 36% across both quality presets. At 1440p using the Epic preset, the 9070 XT delivers a smooth 64 fps average compared with 49 fps on the RTX 5070.
Borderlands 4
In Borderlands 4, the 9070 XT outperforms the RTX 5070 across the board, leading by 27% to 38%. At 1440p using the Badass preset, the 9070 XT achieves 55 fps compared with 40 fps on the RTX 5070, maintaining a similarly large advantage at 4K.
Doom: The Dark Ages
In Doom: The Dark Ages, the 9070 XT holds a massive 29% to 50% lead using the standard Ultra Nightmare preset. However, enabling full path tracing shifts the balance at 1440p, allowing the RTX 5070 to pull ahead by 32%, with 25 fps versus 19 fps for the Radeon GPU.
Dying Light: The Beast
In Dying Light: The Beast, the 9070 XT maintains a 7% to 12% lead in rasterized performance, which expands to a 22% to 29% advantage once ray tracing is enabled. It reaches 62 fps at 1440p Ultra RT compared with 51 fps for the RTX 5070.
Forza Horizon 5
In Forza Horizon 5, the 9070 XT puts in another strong showing, outpacing the RTX 5070 by 31% to 37% across all tested configurations. It easily exceeds 200 fps at 1440p Ultra and still delivers 114 fps at 4K using the Max preset.
Forza Horizon 6
The 9070 XT also performs extremely well in Forza Horizon 6, outpacing the RTX 5070 by 36% to 38% using the Extreme preset. With ray tracing enabled, the Radeon GPU remains firmly ahead, holding a 29% to 34% lead across both resolutions.
Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy XVI heavily favors the 9070 XT, which commands a massive 50% to 57% performance advantage over the RTX 5070 across all tested presets and resolutions. It comfortably sustains 103 fps at 1440p Ultra, while the RTX 5070 manages just 66 fps.
Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut
In Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, the 9070 XT commands a decisive 26% to 37% lead over the RTX 5070 across all tested presets. At 4K Very High, the Radeon GPU delivers a smooth 78 fps average, whereas the RTX 5070 trails at 57 fps.
God of War Ragnarök
God of War Ragnarök also strongly favors the 9070 XT, which leads the RTX 5070 by 28% to 36% across both quality presets. At 1440p High, it delivers 143 fps versus 112 fps for the RTX 5070, with that sizable advantage carrying through to 4K Ultra.
Hell is Us
In Hell is Us, the 9070 XT convincingly outpaces the RTX 5070 by 26% to 30% across the board. The Radeon GPU achieves 86 fps at 1440p Ultra compared with 68 fps on the RTX 5070, with a similar advantage maintained at 4K.
Delta Force
In Delta Force, the 9070 XT consistently outpaces the RTX 5070 by 14% to 25% across all tested configurations. At 1440p using the Ultimate preset, the Radeon card delivers 184 fps on average compared with 151 fps for the RTX 5070.
PUBG: Battlegrounds
In PUBG: Battlegrounds, the 9070 XT consistently beats the RTX 5070 across both presets. It delivers a 14% to 22% advantage at 1440p, though the margin narrows to 6% at 4K. Across all tests, the Radeon card also provides significantly stronger and more consistent 1% lows.
Counter-Strike 2
In Counter-Strike 2, the 9070 XT leads by 30% to 40% using the Medium preset and holds a slight edge at 1440p Very High. At 4K Very High, however, the RTX 5070 moves ahead by 10%, delivering 158 fps.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege X
The 9070 XT delivers a consistent 14% to 19% advantage over the RTX 5070 in Rainbow Six Siege X across both resolutions and quality presets. It easily exceeds 200 fps at 1440p Ultra+ and sustains more than 100 fps at 4K.
Warframe
In Warframe, the 9070 XT consistently outpaces the RTX 5070 across all tested settings. It holds a 15% to 23% lead at 1440p, widening to 22% to 26% at 4K, while also delivering substantially stronger 1% low performance.
Overwatch
Overwatch is an exceptionally close contest between the two GPUs. The RTX 5070 holds a slight 1% to 4% lead using the Medium preset, while the 9070 XT takes a 3% advantage at 1440p Epic. At 4K Epic, both graphics cards deliver exactly 137 fps.
Hunt: Showdown 1896
In Hunt: Showdown 1896, the 9070 XT maintains a solid 21% to 25% performance advantage over the RTX 5070. Using the Medium preset, it reaches 245 fps at 1440p, while at 4K Ultra it delivers 55 fps compared with 44 fps for the RTX 5070.
Helldivers 2
In Helldivers 2, the 9070 XT maintains a steady 19% to 23% lead over the RTX 5070 across both tested resolutions and presets. At 1440p Ultra, the Radeon card delivers 124 fps compared with 104 fps for the GeForce GPU.
Naraka: Bladepoint
In Naraka: Bladepoint, the 9070 XT leads by 14% to 23% in standard rasterization across both resolutions. With ray tracing enabled, the gap narrows considerably, with the 9070 XT holding a 4% edge at 1440p before the RTX 5070 takes a negligible one-frame lead at 4K.
Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced
In Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, both cards run into the engine's frame-rate cap at 1440p Very High. Once the resolution or ray-tracing workload is increased, the 9070 XT pulls ahead, maintaining a consistent 6% to 11% lead over the RTX 5070.
War Thunder
In War Thunder, the 9070 XT holds an 18% to 22% advantage using the Movie quality preset. With Ray Tracing Ultra enabled, the Radeon card widens its lead considerably, outperforming the RTX 5070 by 34% at 1440p and 39% at 4K.
Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3 delivers substantial wins for the 9070 XT, which beats the RTX 5070 by up to 44% at 1440p Ultra. More notably, the Radeon card delivers more than double the 1% low performance of the RTX 5070 at 1440p using both presets.
Windrose
In Windrose, the 9070 XT delivers a convincing performance win, leading the RTX 5070 by 21% to 27% at 1440p. At 4K, that advantage expands to as much as 37% using the Epic preset, where the Radeon card maintains a smooth 78 fps average.
Ark: Survival Ascended
Ark: Survival Ascended strongly favors the 9070 XT, which beats the RTX 5070 by roughly 46% to 52% across all tests. At 1440p Epic, the Radeon card delivers 38 fps versus just 25 fps for the RTX 5070, alongside significantly stronger 1% lows.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 heavily favors the 9070 XT, which beats the RTX 5070 by 29% to 36% across all tests. It sustains an impressive 83 fps average even at 4K Ultra, while also delivering substantially stronger 1% low performance.
Fortnite
In Fortnite Performance Mode, both GPUs become CPU-limited at 1440p before the RTX 5070 takes a 5% lead at 4K. Switching to Epic Ray Tracing reverses the result, with the 9070 XT leading by 5% to 11%.
Resident Evil Requiem
In Resident Evil Requiem, the 9070 XT commands a decisive 26% to 35% lead across all tested configurations. Enabling Ray Tracing High does little to change the picture, with the Radeon GPU remaining roughly 29% to 30% faster than the RTX 5070.
Mafia: The Old Country
In Mafia: The Old Country, the 9070 XT leads by 29% to 42% using the Medium preset. At Epic quality, the RTX 5070 runs into severe memory limitations, allowing the 9070 XT to deliver nearly double the frame rate at 1440p and more than twice the performance at 4K.
Halo Infinite
In Halo Infinite, the 9070 XT consistently outperforms the RTX 5070 across all tests. It commands a 32% to 36% lead using the Medium preset and maintains a healthy 19% to 26% advantage with Ultra Quality and ray-traced shadows enabled.
Monster Hunter Wilds
The 9070 XT maintains a steady 22% to 27% advantage over the RTX 5070 in Monster Hunter Wilds. It achieves 81 fps at 1440p Ultra with Ray Tracing High enabled and still delivers a very playable 49 fps average at 4K Ultra RT.
Cities: Skylines II
In Cities: Skylines II, the 9070 XT leads the RTX 5070 across all tests. At 1440p Medium, it holds a 33% advantage, though the margin tightens significantly at 4K High Quality, where both GPUs deliver roughly 31 to 32 fps.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, the 9070 XT holds a comfortable 10% to 20% performance lead over the RTX 5070. It delivers 106 fps at 1440p Ultra Quality and maintains a playable 62 fps average at 4K Ultra, where the RTX 5070 falls further behind.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The 9070 XT maintains a strong 30% to 33% rasterization lead in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. With Ray Tracing Ultra enabled, the Radeon GPU remains ahead, posting a 16% advantage at 1440p and a 28% margin at 4K.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
In Space Marine 2, performance is very close at 1440p, where the 9070 XT holds a slim 4% to 6% lead. At 4K, however, the Radeon card stretches its advantage to 14% using the Ultra preset and 16% on Medium.
Starfield
In Starfield, the 9070 XT holds a decisive 28% to 44% lead over the RTX 5070 across all tested settings. It delivers a solid 86 fps at 1440p Ultra and maintains a playable 58 fps average at 4K Ultra, leaving the RTX 5070 well behind.
Star Wars Outlaws
In Star Wars Outlaws, the 9070 XT leads by 17% to 26% using the Medium preset. With RTX Direct Lighting Ultra enabled, the Radeon GPU maintains a 9% lead at 1440p, but pulls dramatically ahead at 4K, where the RTX 5070 runs into severe memory limitations.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2
In Spider-Man 2, the 9070 XT outpaces the RTX 5070 by 29% to 33% using the Very High rasterized preset. Even with Ray Tracing Ultimate enabled, the Radeon GPU remains ahead, leading by 24% at 1440p and 20% at 4K.
Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl
In Stalker 2, the 9070 XT maintains an 11% to 12% lead at 1440p across both quality presets. At 4K, that margin expands to 18% using the Epic preset and 22% on Medium, accompanied by noticeably stronger 1% low performance.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
In Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the 9070 XT leads by 19% to 25% using the standard Supreme preset. However, enabling Full Ray Tracing shifts the advantage to Nvidia, allowing the RTX 5070 to pull ahead by 10% at 1440p and 19% at 4K.
Performance Summary
Across our 52-game average, the 9070 XT is comfortably faster than the RTX 5070. It delivers a 24% higher average frame rate at 1440p, with that advantage increasing slightly to 25% at 4K. The Radeon GPU also delivers substantially stronger 1% lows overall.
Cost Per Frame
Before wrapping up, here's a look at the cost-per-frame data. Based on our 1440p results, the RTX 5070 carries a 37% premium on a cost-per-frame basis, with that margin increasing slightly to 39% at 4K. That makes the 9070 XT substantially better value at current prices.
As a side note, in Australia the 9070 XT and RTX 5070 are currently priced about the same, making the Radeon GPU roughly 25% better value in terms of cost per frame.
AMD Wins on Performance, VRAM, and Value
There isn't much more to analyze here. Features such as DLSS don't come close to justifying the kind of price premium required to buy an RTX 5070, and I can't envision a gaming scenario where I would choose it over the cheaper 9070 XT, which in my opinion is simply the better all-round buy.
Even at price parity, the 9070 XT is a much stronger proposition. Not only is it generally much faster, but you also get 16GB of VRAM, a particularly valuable commodity right now. The RTX 5070's 12GB buffer has always been somewhat questionable, and when the card also carries a price premium, it becomes very difficult to recommend.
I genuinely can't come up with a realistic justification for why a gamer would pay more for the RTX 5070 than the 9070 XT.
In my view, the RTX 5070 was Nvidia's last reasonably viable GeForce GPU, and even that is no longer true at current prices. The RTX 5070 Ti is now priced at more than $1,100, making it roughly 50% more expensive than the 9070 XT for a similar level of performance. Meanwhile, the RTX 5080 has been a poor value proposition for some time, and current asking prices of around $1,500 only make matters worse. And then there's the RTX 5090.
In fact, while we were putting this benchmark together, RTX 5060 Ti 16GB pricing climbed to around $750, with many models already at or above $800. That puts it at roughly the same price as the RTX 5070 and, more importantly, above the 9070 XT. That means in the space of just a few weeks, the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB went from around $580 to roughly $800, an increase of almost 40%.
None of this comes entirely as a surprise. The speed of the increase is still remarkable, but we warned that higher GeForce pricing was coming. At this point, GeForce pricing is so distorted that Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9060 series GPUs are among the few sensible options left for gamers shopping in this part of the market. If you need a new graphics card, grabbing an RDNA 4 model while pricing remains relatively reasonable may be the clever move.
