The Nintendo Wii has outsold its competitors by quite a margin month after month. But while it's been the top selling console worldwide since late last year, with NPD's latest numbers in Nintendo is now touting first place among consoles in the US as well - besting Microsoft's Xbox 360 and its one-year lead.

During June, 666,000 Wii consoles were sold in the US, according to the market research firm, raising its total sales count in the country to 10.9 million units. By comparison, Microsoft sold 219,800 Xbox 360 consoles in the US for a total of 10.5 million. Sony's PlayStation 3 continues to bring up the rear, though it certainly got a boost from the release of "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots," which helped the company sell 405,500 consoles last month.

On the software side of things, six of the top 10 best-sellers for June are Nintendo-platform games as well, though Metal Gear Solid 4 topped the list with about 1 million units. Check out the rest of the numbers here.
