After questioning the ever more common practice of monetizing additional game content, Valve is putting the money where its mouth is by confirming that the upcoming Left 4 Dead "Survival Pack" expansion will be free for both PC and Xbox 360 gamers when it launches sometime this spring. The game developer has traditionally updated their PC releases with free content as a strategy to combat piracy and build a loyal following, but until now it had unable to work out a free distribution model with Microsoft on the Xbox 360.

Fortunately, it seems now that they have been able reach said agreement. Hopefully more developers will see the benefit in offering free content for their games as well. The L4D Survival Pack will include a brand new multiplayer game called 'Survival' and two campaigns for Versus mode: Death Toll and Dead Air.
