Super Talent and Toshiba have joined forces to deliver a family of four SSDs which offer respectable performance and enhanced security protection. The UltraDrive DX series make use of Toshiba's controllers and MLC flash memory, which is paired with 128MB of cache, ECC and wear leveling algorithms for higher reliability.

Super Talent says the UltraDrive DX SSDs were designed with a priority on security, featuring a two-tiered system of defense. On the first level, the drives provide encrypted password protection, and on the second, they offer a new data randomization technology that kicks in automatically with every write to prevent unauthorized copying of blocks of data. This doesn't affect performance according to the company, with the drives boasting a sequential read and write speed of 230MB/s and 180MB/s.

The UltraDrive DX SSDs kick off with a 64GB model priced at $219, then a 128GB drive for $439, 256GB at $719, and a 512GB unit will run you a whopping $1,649. All carry a two-year warranty and Super Talent expects them to start shipping next week.
