Yawning – it’s something that happens on a semi-regular basis for most and is typically associated with being tired. The act was commonly thought to draw more oxygen into the lungs to make you feel less tired but new research suggests that may not be the case.
Scientists now believe that humans yawn as a way to cool down our brains. The act increases your heart rate, blood flow and the use of muscles in your face – all of which help to cool the brain. I’ll leave it up to the clip above to explain why our brain gets hot in the first place and why yawning is contagious.
