Final Fantasy Resonance

In retooling Brave Exvius for the classic RPG format, Final Fantasy Resonance sets a new benchmark for HD-2D visuals alongside solid turn-based combat and incredible music, which carry an underwhelming story.

This is clearly a throwback game, with quality-of-life touches that do get rid of the cumbersome nature of the genre. Final Fantasy Resonance is a great first step in the right direction for the franchise. With a better plot, setting, and a distinctive gameplay hook not too reliant on nostalgia, it could surpass its contemporaries.

'Final Fantasy Resonance' is another impressive example of Square Enix turning a mobile game into something that can live forever. Its satisfying turn-based combat and exploration are sure to please old-scool 'FF' fans, even if its main story doesn't stand among the greats.

I went into Resonance expecting to like it for its salute to Final Fantasy characters across the decades, but I wound up loving the game for showing me a whole new canon. In a time when mainline Final Fantasy is still figuring itself out, Final Fantasy Resonance is easy to recommend. It has one foot planted on the solid foundation of Final Fantasy's history, but with its rich graphics and likeable cast of characters it builds up from that history instead of merely pillaging it.

Final Fantasy Resonance is certainly a success in taking the series back to its roots, but the key now is if Square Enix can figure out how to build a meaningful future on top of that foundation. With the right emphasis on what works about Final Fantasy Resonance, there could be something truly special ahead.

What Final Fantasy Resonance lacks in originality it makes up for with dynamic visuals and presentation and an understanding of what makes the classics work.
