The game borrows highly from Dark Souls, but you can really feel the Team Ninja presence when it comes to the combat since it feels a lot like a ground-based Ninja Gaiden overall. If you're a fan of Dark Souls, Ninja Gaiden, or difficult action games in general, it's worth giving Nioh a try. It's definitely one of the better action game on the PS4 console.

Hundreds of hours in and I was still getting excited at new aspects and discoveries within the game, finding constantly fresh and rewarding things to do and see. It’s a slick, fantastic hack and slash with a strong sense of charm and sincerity, accessible yet tough to master, and if there’s any justice, it’ll go down in history as an all-time classic.

Nioh is a triumph. It stands head and shoulders above every other title in the genre, even eclipsing its obvious inspiration. Team Ninja is not only back, but it has thrown down the gauntlet, and only time will tell who's up for the challenge.

Nioh's most invigorating and intimidating moments occur when you feel you're at equal footing with your opponent. And it's during these encounters that one careless move can result in your demise or the right string of thoughtful actions can make you feel invincible.
