Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6

Samsung focuses on the internals for its new compact foldable, adding an upgraded camera and a larger battery.

While Z Flip 6’s design has remained largely the same, Samsung made several under-the-hood upgrades this year, with improved battery life and cameras. It makes the best case yet for mainstream foldables, but the company could do more, especially when utilizing the secondary front screen.

Despite its size, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is an extremely potent smartphone, making it perfect for anyone that doesn’t want to haul around a larger device without losing any of the performance.

All this to say, I think the increased competition in the folding space is good for Samsung. These are fantastically refined devices that are almost as polished as nonfolding phones, but they're still not necessarily the phones I'd gravitate toward. The Motorola Razr+ has a bit more personality and a nicer cover screen, and I liked the OG Pixel Fold so much that I'm holding out for its sequel. For the inevitable Fold7 and Flip7 next year, I hope to see a few of the features I've been waiting for without a price jump.

Ultimately, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a wonderful phone. The fact that Samsung offers seven years of OS and security software upgrades is amazing – that's more than double the three years Motorola promises for the Razr Plus. And if I were just judging the two phones on this one criteria, the Z Flip 6 would be my pick, hands down.

With excellent displays, beefy internals, outstanding build quality, and a seven-year support window, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 takes the lead among compact foldable phones.

The Z Flip 6 is still one of the best flip-phones on the market and remains the best way to fit a big screen in a small pocket. But the durability of all folding screens cannot match standard phones, requiring careful treatment and potentially expensive repairs.
